Mac Pro 5,1.
I have 2 30" Apple Cinema displays, which work great with my Radeon R9 M270, because it has 2 dual link DVI ports.
I just got an RX 580, and one display works fine with the built in DVI port, but I can't get the second one working. I bought an active DisplayPort to Dual link DVI adapter from Amazon, and it works for about 2 seconds and then the video gets jumbled up on the second display.
I have gone back to using the old R9, but I want to use the RX580. What's the problem here?

this adapter also works bad with both monitors ??
I guess or perhaps adapter is broken or nit compatible with apple 30” cinema display’s.

i use on my 5,1 with a gtx680 and one 30” is connected using an origina apple dual link dvi display adapter without any problems so far..

Is this really an active adapter (providing additional power via USB) or is it just claiming to be “active“? None of the later ones will work.

It is an active adapter with a USB plug. Both displays are good. I don’t think Apple ever made a displayport to dual link adapter, this card does not have mini display port.

Here’s the adapter.

I purchased 2 of these from eBay (a deal @$25/each!) and use with my 2 30" ACD's on a Radeon VII...I get a half a second of garble when waking from sleep, but otherwise have been working flawlessly for a almost 3 months now.

Yes, but for a few bucks you can get a displayport to mini-displayport adapter like this one. I'm using one of them along with the Apple adapter for a 30" ACD and it works just fine.

But the adapter you have should absolutely work too! Do you have the chance to attache an additional display to adjust the resolution to the ACD's native 2560 x 1600 after booting?

I tried that. I also tried with SwitchResX but it is still cutting out.

That is the correct adapter, and I can locate one of those, but this card does not have a mini displayport.

Going from display port to mini displayport is easy, with simple adapters..
When buying an original apple adapter, make sure you buy one with latest firmware 1,03.
Also shown in that youtube video !

But your adapter should positively work! It even is explicitely advertised as a solution for the cinema HD 30.

I'd first give resetting the NVram a try. It also should appear in the "Graphics/Display"-area of system info. At least the Apple-adapter does. At the Display’s description right below the "Rotation"-entry there should be another one for "Adapter Type".

If all that does not work, it might well be defective. Can you return it?

Here it is with the adapter hooked up. Both displays are detected. This is weird - every minute or so the second screen will flash on and display for about three seconds and then turn back off. Otherwise it’s just really faint flashing bars.

Those Apple adaptors (and these sorts of adaptors in general) had horrible reviews. I'm not sure I'd invest a lot of time and money tracking one down. The adaptor you have should work.

Which 580 do you have installed? I recall that the ports on some cards, like some XFX models, can behave a bit squirrelly. I presume you've tried the other DP outputs on the card if it has them?

This is what i get to see:

Screen Shot 2020-03-03 at 00.11.10.png

Similar but with the Adapter Type in addition. But maybe this is just for the Apple adapter and at least your adapter's firmware is recognized.

Have you tried all the display ports available on your card? If your answer is "yes" and you had the same symptoms for all of them, i'd bet it's just your adapter beeing fu**ed. So if you can RMA it, this is what i would do next. If not,

But i can absolutely not share phairphan’s opinion. In my case the adapter works flawlessly with no noticeable difference to a real dual-link DVI at all.

My card is a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX580 8GB. I’ve tried both displayports and I tried the adapter on the DisplayPort of my R9. Same result.

I have that same 3D club adapter and it is crap. It seemed to work with one 30in and a 5600xt but there were a lot of lines on the screen, bad picture. I bought a used dell adapter off eBay and it works perfectly.

In that case, it sounds like you have a bad adaptor and it's time for a return and another/a different one. Looks like the Apple adaptor is being sold used on eBay for about the same price as the new, non-Apple adaptors.

So this adapter seems to be really crappy. I was close to ordering one too. Luckily i didn't and got the Apple instead.
