I'm wrestling with myself over exchanging my iPad Pro (again). There is a small speck of dust toward the bottom of the screen - maybe a third of an inch from the edge of the screen. It's roughly 1-2 pixels big. It's not very noticeable until you've seen it, and then it's all you see . Dust is a pretty common problem, and this one is small and mostly out of the way, though it is a very dark black little dot when the screen is on.

What would you do?

I've gone through a handful with uneven tints and dust in the middle of the screen. I can't decide if I want to risk getting a worse iPad.

There are perfect ones out there but it's a lottery. I've gone through a couple of 128gb iPP's myself with the same problem and uneven whites.

You would think that with the LCD being fused with the glass, dust under the screen is done away with in the factory, but it can still creep in there.

One thing I've been hearing is that the problem is more evident on the 128gb ones. I finally decided to try a 32gb and wouldn't you know it, it's perfectly even, there are no anomalies under the screen...I've never been happier. If you can live with a 32gb, which I think is good enough if you mainly stream stuff, then go give it a try.

One other observation I have with these new screens is that they rarely exhibit dead pixels and backlighting issues...at least with the ones I was able to use.

Unfortunately, I can't live with a 32gb model. I often use my iPad to show clients design work. Even my iPhone is 128gb - and it's about 90% full.

Keep it, use it. It's good therapy to overcome OCD. Remember you're not married to these things for life. There will be a new one down the road in a few years. Looking for ultimate perfection in these tablets can be a waste of time and resources.

If you are not 100% happy, why would you keep it? Just return it and get a new one at the Store so you can check immediately if there is any issue with the screen.

You're probably right. i chose to keep an unevenly pink tinted iPad 3 after going through a ton of them. I rarely used it because of the tint. I tried for a month or two, but it annoyed me enough that I put it in a drawer and mostly forgot about it. I was hoping this time would be different. Another $1k+ wasted.

I've never been 100% happy with any screen from Apple in the 15+ years I've been buying their stuff. I usually just find ones that I can live with.

What?! I tend to be very picky with screens and audio quality in general and I have to say Apple screens are top notch! The only issue I had was a dead pixel on my previous iPad. Other than that, no issues whatsoever! I am afraid I will have to agree with a previous post on this thread, no offense but you probably have some sort of OCD that should be treated.

I was going to say hell yeah! Get it replaced. Stuff like that bothers me so bad and, like you said, once you see it you can't unsee it. But if you haven't been happy with a screen from Apple in over 15 years, chances are you won't be happy with the replacement anyway. So why bother?

My first iPad Pro had a Yellow Tint on the top half of the screen and I couldn´t live happily with it so even though I was outside of my 14 day period I took it to the genius bar and got it replaced, I am now vey happy with my new iPad Pro the screen is perfectly even at least for my eyes. So I would say go and exchange it and do it until you get one that keeps you satisfied we are paying a good amount of money for this devices so we should be completely happy with them

I buy a lot of tech. Apple is the only one I consistently have problems with in terms of screens.

Did you keep that iPad or get it exchanged?

I got it exchanged of course even though Genius said they usually dont replace the iPad if it is less than a few dead pixels. Of course I insisted and they just exchanged. All in all, great customer support!

They do have great customer support. I'm going to make a Genius Bar appointment and see what they say. I figure if they say it wouldn't be enough for an exchange or replacement after the 14 day return period, then I'll just live with it.

Good luck! I am pretty sure they will replace it for you

The guy at the Genius Bar said it was too small to warrant replacing and shrugged his shoulders. Sadly, I'm two days past my return window because they based it on my first purchase, not the swap.

I'll see what kind of price I can get for it on Craigslist and move on with life. It's no fun having a device you want to smash every time you look at it. Lol

I am sad to read that :( You can either try to replace it again as the guy who checked your device might have been in a bad mood or sell it like you suggested. I agree with you that it is not a pleasant situation to have a device you dont enjoy. I wish you good luck and I hope you can find a solution for this issue.

I found a person to sell it to. It's back in its box and ready to go. He asked asked for $250 off my asking price (which was $150 less than retail) because of the speck of dust, which I thought was fair. I wouldn't have bought it all from Craigslist if I knew there was dust.

You sold it for 400.00 off retail for a practically brand new IPP with a speck of dust? Wow that was a deal for the buyer!

Yeah, if they can deal with the dust, I hope they enjoy it. I figured I could get back some of what I paid and buy something else, or put it in a desk drawer and never ever use it. I opted for getting some money back out of it. I was bummed that I missed my return/exchange window. But, I guess I gave Apple more money so they can hopefully afford dust free factories some day.

If that dude wants, he can attempt to replace it at Apple himself. Another "genius" may go ahead and do the swap, and he would get a brand new (possibly refurbished) iPad for $400 off full retail.

You crazy. Haha

I went through 13 of them, so it was time to cut my losses and move on. I had lost any confidence I'd ever get one without an uneven screen or dust under the screen, and I loathe going into the Apple Store.

I have a new policy: one and I'm done. If I don't like it, I return it and move on. Just ordered a Surface Pro, so I'm giving my new approach a shot.

Yeah, I've seen a good enough sample size of iPads that had a variety of issues... that I'm just tired. (uneven tints, dust under the screen, a screen that made a clicking noise at the slightest touch, and even one that had a side of the screen go entirely dark after a few days of using it). I'm sure there are good ones out there. It's always my luck with Apple products. My wife gets a perfect iPad Mini or iPhone (which I inspect as thoroughly as I do my own devices) - and when I get the same thing I get dust, dead pixels, uneven backlighting or other problems. It's like I have an Apple curse.
