DVD drive region changes MBP

Hello all, this may be the dumbest question you've read this whole day, but I'm going to ask it anyway. I watch a lot of Region 2 DVD's here in the US and I've used 4/5 region changes on my MBP. My question is... if I were to buy an external DVD drive would I be able to have that one set to play only region 2 DVD's and will the computer recognize that there are two separate drives? I just don't want to spend money on it, if that will not work. Thanks in advance!
