Did it strike anyone else as ironic that Monopoly was developed by the game studio that is methodically buying up everything in sight? Thanks to EA, the newest games are gradually becoming a collection of mediocre sequels to mediocre games and disappointing sequels to amazing games.

I will never again buy an EA game, iPod or otherwise. I just can't condone their business practices, and I would much prefer to support the smaller independent developers that have traditionally provided the best, most original games on the market. Release all the Mac ports you like, I've got Windows installed on my Mac now and I'm not afraid to use it.

Yes, but releasing a game called "Monopoly" on the iPod is the height of irony. And then, of course, it is developed by EA, which is another monopoly. And we can't ignore Hasbro, who have a monopoly over the board games market. The irony is 11!

Although I would argue that the iPod's argue isn't really down to unfair business practices. They entered a market with a project designed in-house, and it kicked ass, and people buy it because of the brand that it's established. Fair game.

I guess I'm having a hard time imagining World of Warcraft/Quake/Grand Theft Auto/or whatever is state of the art in action games performing at anything reasonable on an iPod. Not to mention that the controls would be tough to handle.

That wasn't at all what I was talking about. I'm talking about releasing more games from the Sega Genesis era or earlier, like they already did with Sonic. And even if they don't release ports of actual games from that era, they clearly are able to produce new action games that are similarly advanced and involved like Sonic is.

Yeah. EA is becoming the Microsoft of computer games. They rehash software, selling them as new, and everyone hates them.

Monopoly is more fun with real money.

:)

High stakes monopoly anyone?

I'm going to spend as much time in jail as possible... that way I can't lose my money to anyone else.

He only said action games, he didn't say high-end 3D action games.

There's a couple of decades worth of high quality 2d games, some of which would work really nicely on the ipod. Some would handle a lot better than Sonic too. :)

Hasbro, maybe.. Apple.. Nah. EA, definitely not. EA really have a lot of competition from a lot of huge companies. They have a lot of people to buy out before they're a monopoly. :D
