On the ear buds thing; iPod earbuds are pretty much useless to me as well. They won't stay in even if I don't move.
Luckily I had Sony headphones that sound great of the type that are buds with a headband. They seem to use more power though as the battery life seems to be reduced.

This is one good reason why I ditched the original iPod earbuds after I bought my 3G iPod nano. :) I use either the JVC HA-FX-66-W or Creative EP-630, both of which are in-ear headphones that don't fall out even on my most vigorous hikes.

I had this problem for a long time as well. Finally just quit running with music. Best solution I've found yet. :D

would Suggest In ear head phones because the ones that come with the Ipod tend to get destroyed within weeks of purchase. the rubber on the earbuds peels off. So, in ear is probably the way to go.

I had the same problem, I found that the iPhone / iPod touch buds fell out while walking, after as few as 4 steps. Quite frustrating, really...

My solution was to put on the black foam covers that came with my iPod mini earbuds. Snug fit, and they don't fall out. You may be able to buy some somewhere, they'd be the cheapest option.

BTW in Australia we call them 'beanies' too, while in Japan they're called 'wool caps', even if they're not.

i grabbed the ultimate ears super.fi 5, because you can wear these with cable over the ear for activity and cable downwards for casual listening. the comply foam fittings work out fine, never had them slip out my ears while running...

Earbud Covers

My personal opinion is that you stick with your standard Apple earbuds, but get yourself a pair of earbud covers. You want to stay away from the foam garbage and get yourself the ones made out of the dry wear material that athletes wear. I would recommend Breppies. They completely go over your entire earbud and they will keep moisture away (main cause of falling out/slipping) and also keep dirt and other grime from getting inside your speaker housing (main cause of your speaker clipping or going out completely). They are incredibly comfortable and for the price you cannot go wrong. I work for the company (full disclosure) but I can tell you that our customers include a lot of athletes, many of whom said they have "come back" to using Apple earbuds because of our covers. Anyway, it beats having to shell out 50 bucks for some that probably won't work as well as you would like.

Could be the movement of the wire, rather than the fit? I'd suggest clipping the wire somewhere (eg. collar) to see if that helps at all (reduces the total effective weight of wire on the earpieces)
Try a bulldog clip or clothes peg failing any better option. :)

I've posted this in a few threads before, and I'm sticking to it. Trust me, get these: http://www.budfits.com/

They go over your current iPod earbuds, so you can still use the remote settings without having to buy any adapter.

Last summer, I ran about 500 miles total (including a Marathon), and my earbuds never once came out. They are amazing.

I personally believe falling out is due to shape and the smoothness of the rubber piece. I my case the ear buds slide out since the rubber piece cannot grip the ear canal.

My .02

Buy new high quality earbuds. The Apple ones are of such low quality as to being dangerous to your hearing. And the white is more attractive to potential muggers.

You don't know what you're missing.

Yeah, this is the only thing that worked for me too. Now I never miss a beat.
