An hour ago the search result for Earthscape said $4.99, but the actual product page says free, which it still says right now, unless it's being modified.
Wasn't the app $9.99 when it launched? Which I felt was a little overpriced seeing how much of the usefulness from say google earth is gone, like no ability to search locations, bookmark locations.
I like the quick button to change from perspective to flat. As you pretty much navigate large distances with flat, but when you reach the destination, hit perspective to then look around freely with one finger, two fingers to move forward and side to side, pinch to still zoom in and out some.
The imagery seemed to load a bit slow over wifi (only tested so far). I was getting bored of waiting for my city (after hitting locate me) to go from a green color to something recognizable. Maybe with the app being free their servers are being hit hard, but if the speed stays the same over 3G or Edge, then I find it acceptable, as maybe just wifi speeds were just hitting a bottleneck.
Framerate was not as smooth as expected, yet still fine for what it does. I hadn't restarted my phone in a while and the loading could have effected it.
Overall, my initial impression when it was released still stands. What are we suppose to use it for? Sharing photos? You just fly around aimlessly besides the locate me button. If you were some how out of town and wanted to find hotspots, google maps with satellite view and its search would be more useful, especially setting up a route. So it really seems like a toy to show off the iphone, which even then lacks since you have no bookmarks to interesting locations like the Grand Canyon to show off. The locate me button for me is no better than google maps since I live in the flat valley in California.
