As others said, it sounds like a scam. I'd stay away unless you'd like to have a little fun, a la the P-P-P-Powerbook. :D

Haha, I just posted a link to the P-P-P-Powerbook in response to another ebay mac scam thread.

Great minds think alike. ;)

I've heard these scams are pretty common, especially for expensive computer items. It's amazing to me that people would fall for something like this considering that so much is involved. Selling through Paypal is so much easier.

I had heard about P-P-P-Powerbook before but didn't know what it was exactly. I just read about it through the link posted. Wow, that is so freaking awesome!

Those posters were better investigative journalists then I've seen in awhile. :p

I say ask for WU or something of the kind. After you cash it, THEN send it. If the guy refuses, then you know its a scammer. You dont lose anything (besides times) but you sure can gain something.

The fact an idiot would ask someone selling in the USA to send something across the Atlantic when there are plenty of ebay listings in Europe, makes it a scam.

I just ignore these idiots, or just tell them to send me a money order. I mean all my auctions say PayPal and Money Order only, what makes anyone think I would do different? Oh wait, scammers do. Morons.

oh NO!!! the standard advice to potential buyers wanting to avoid getting scammed by a seller is NEVER send WU (kiss your money goodbye if you do!)....so if somebody refuses to pay by WU, it's a sign that they're just being cautious as a buyer and not scamming

Sorry for bringing this one back...

I am selling my iBook on ebay and I got a message from someone that goes as follows:

"Dear seller, your item has got good specifications and I want it for resale as it is almost twice the price here in AFRICA because of the high demand.I like to know the condition of the item. PLS SEND YOUR CONTACT DETAILS FOR PAYMENT; of $2400.00 + 100 for shipping . Should you have ONE EXTRA for sale, please let me know so I can make payment for both. I will be making payment via BidPay AUCTION PAYMENT(Money Order) ON THE CONDITION THAT it will be shipped out THROUGH REGULARUS PARCEL SERVICE AIRMAIL, AT THE POST OFFICE. Do provide your info for immediate payment: Your Full Email Name Address City State Country Zip Code Tel Number. I want you to get back to me if this offer is okay with you"

Seems sketchy. Should I just ignore it?

Yes. Classic dodgyness. Definitely ignore it. The only reason I would mail back is if you fancy having fun with them as in the P-P-Powerbook link mentioned earlier. ;)

To quote a very great man, this buyer sounds like a Vagina McGinstein.

I simply replied to him with the following:

"I accept only PayPal and Personal Check. I will ship it however you'd like it but will charge extra if it costs more than the $35 already charged.

Also, if you are interested in buying it for $2400, simply place a bid of that amount."

It's a scam.. this so called escrow service is meant to screw you over, if anything.

Once you sent the item off, your item will mysteriously vanish...
