between march 1st and 15th.

And I would jump really quick on it these are going to move.

The hype is intense so it bodes backorder. (China is only so big :D )

Nobody really knows. Just rough estimates and guessing.

Apple doesn't inform Resellers or anybody else about release dates or pre-order dates for their products. Sooner than later, I can only hope.

WHY though did they simply not start taking pre-orders from the off ?

I really do not understand the delay on accepting pre-orders. It can't be to make sure they have enough stock, as accepting pre-orders sooner would make it easier for them to stockpile a more accurate amount of iPad's they require at launch, it would also give them a better indication of which model was most popular.

So yeah just can't see a reason for not accepting pre-orders from the day they announced the iPad.

I am highly educated.

I'll guess Amazon.com and others will allow pre-order of the iPad as early as one month before Apple has them available to purchase.

You took the words right outta my mouth!
That is exactly what I was wondering. You would think they would take pre-orders right after the announcement while the hype was still ongoing and as a good indication as to how much interest and supply they would need.
Well I guess they know what they are doing but IJS.

i don't think they can legally offer it for preorder until it has been approved by the FCC. at the end of their promo video there is a disclaimer about this.
