El Capitan freezing

hi.

I recently did the newest El Capitan update,

And my Mac wouldn't boot up, it was stuck at the grey loading screen with the br half loaded.

I did the pram reset and not it loading to the loading screen and I can enter my password and load into El Capitan, but now it is very slow and everything would load then just freeze and do nothing.

I did try to reinstall El Capitan and it still does the freezing.

What can I do now?

Okay... so everything worked fine before and now it is slow with no change other than the El Capitan upgrade?

Sounds like you may have something running that conflicts with El Capitan. Try holding the shift key at startup to boot to safe mode. That will prevent any startup or launch items from running. Does that help? Let me know, then we can figure out how to fix things.

Okay.... I misunderstood. I thought your troubles started with the initial El Capitan install. So El Capitan worked just fine, and things went south when you installed the 10.11.1 update then?

Safe mode stops all launch items and startup items from running to eliminate that as the cause of the problems. Give that a try and tell me if it helps.

But now with your saying it was just the point update that caused problems, it seems less likely to be an app/driver conflict. So you can login to El Capitan and it works, but everything is slow and freezes?

But when everything loads, like the menu bar items and I open safari it freezes and I can't do anything I can't click on the apple to force quit safari
I can only move my mouse around.

Try the safe mode boot and tell me if that helps.

Also, try holding command-r at boot to get to the recovery screen. From there use Disk Utility to run first aid. Does that report any errors on the disk?

Safe mode will be slow. Expect that. But maybe some of the other misbehaviors will improve and allow you to further diagnose.

If you're backed up, consider a clean install. But do run the Disk Utility full scan from the diagnostics boot partition. You may have disk problems.

Ah... now we are getting somewhere. If it freezes in regular mode but not in safe mode, that means you likely have some sort of app or driver running that is causing a conflict. Safe mode stops any apps or third party utilities etc from running.

So boot back to regular mode then run the utility Etrecheck. That will create a report showing everything running. Post the report here so we can have a look.

I think I might of found the problem

It seems to be safari freezing my MacBook.

Because when I load safari it freezes then everything freezes

Okay... good you got the report run. Like I mentioned the fact that you do not have this problem in safe mode proves it is one of the startup or launch items in this report causing the issue. So now the trick is figuring out which one it is. Unfortunately there is no easy way to do this other than trial and error.

You have a lot of third party utilities running there. I would start by removing Clean my Mac, iStat Menus, Hazel, and Teamviewer. If that does not work just keep going down the report and removing things that are either "loaded" or "running" until you find the culprit.

A guest user or a new user starts with a nearly empty ~/Library structure that only has default content such as plists.

Yes... exactly. Make sure you get rid of the launch items from the Etrecheck list in these folders. That ~ is your users folder.
