Yes... exactly. Make sure you get rid of the launch items from the Etrecheck list in these folders. That ~ is your users folder.

So I am currently installing El Capitan on a external drive
Then going to put the drive in my Mac and then put my drive from my Mac into the enclosure and hopefully backup my data

There you go. Assuming the drive can still be read, you should be able to see your data on there and drag and drop it over.

If I didn't care about my data then I would of just formatted the drive and everything would be ok

But I would be losing 3 years of photos of me and wife and son
