Forget RAID 1. RAID 0 is where it's at. I get over 250MB/sec on my 2012 Mac Mini with standard 5400 RPM drives. I backup to an external bootable USB3 2TB drive with CCC. Easy as can be.
Now if they would bring back a RAID-ready Mac like the Mac Mini Server....
