Have you tried reindexing Spotlight?

Code:
sudo mdutil -i on /

Rebuilt all indexes numerous times; have done 7 clean installs ....... still the same problems. I just did a Spotlight search for giggles and noticed that the search threw up roughly 300 error codes in Console.

Examples:

1/24/16 8:54:23.000 AM kernel[0]: Sandbox: SpotlightNetHelp(378) deny(1) file-read-data /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app/Contents

1/24/16 8:54:24.000 AM kernel[0]: Sandbox: SpotlightNetHelp(378) deny(1) ipc-posix-shm-read-data CFPBS:186A8:

1/24/16 8:54:24.050 AM SpotlightNetHelper[378]: CFPasteboardRef CFPasteboardCreate(CFAllocatorRef, CFStringRef) : failed to create global data

1/24/16 8:54:24.143 AM SpotlightNetHelper[378]: CGSConnectionByID: 0 is not a valid connection ID.

1/24/16 8:54:30.894 AM Spotlight[365]: XPC connection was invalidated

However, this Snow Leopard sentimentally is really puzzling to me. Is it because the OS is so old that it became a default 'back in the old days' memory? I work with Snow Leopard on daily basis (we need to maintain a local server with legacy software) and I really don't know what people mean when they praise it as a pinnacle of OS X. Its just as fast/stable OS as 10.11 but lacks a large amount of features of the later version.

In my case its because 10.6.8 has been more stable than any newer OS released by Apple. Mavericks 10.9.5 is last usable OS for my needs. As for features in my opinion less is more, I prefer OS that provides the bare minimum to software and I am not convinced about the direction Apple has been taking OS X (everything and the kitchen sink comes to mind) and I may have to look for alternatives in the future.

What they were thinking is that it is probably not worth the effort to implement de-facto obsolete functionality (I assume you refer to removal of RAID GUI). That said, how much would you pay for a RAID GUI app? I would write one if there is a market for it ;)

I could migrate RAID to another software, that isn't the only problem. What I meant is that the new Disk Utility is way too unreliable and I cant trust it anymore. For some reason it sometimes fails basic functions like partitioning and erasing drives. When I try the same with older versions on 10.8 and 10.9 they work without problems so its very likely problem has to be in 10.11.

I tested it on another Mac with clean instal of 10.11.3, different enclosures and got the same results. I send bug report to Apple, hopefully they can figure it out.

Yes to both, or as snappy like Snow Leopard!

Based on my testing I cant agree, see my previous post for details.

I get frequent hangs and restarts ("frequent" = two or three times a week). But I haven't installed the latest update yet.

Mines always up today, but i get the same issue at roughly the same frequency.
Kernel panics and beachball for maybe 30seconds at a time.

Also have issues with resuming.
