Not surprised, there hasn't really been a new console in a while. And growth from 0% to anything is near infinite - pretty hard to beat ;)

Pretty much this.

A brand new platform is showing more growth than well entrenched consoles that are nearing the end of an uncharacteristically long lifespan. This is normal. When the next round of consoles come out they will spike up and the iPad's growth will have slowed as it gets closer to market saturation.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

I do agree though that just having pretty GFX is becoming less and less relevant these days.

These two are pretty much done when it comes to handhelds.

No they're not, no matter how many times you say they are.

Only way they'd be done is if Apple could duplicate the type of quality gaming experience you can get off a DS or Vita on their iOS device.

So far it can't. So far it can't do anything well except mini-games, ports of 20 year old retro games, glorified tech demos, IP ripoffs, and games that make you wonder why your iPad even has a GPU. And these games are so disposable, they have to be the price of a candy bar for anyone to buy them.

The most popular iOS games are a Scrabble ripoff and a ripoff of Crush the Castle. The biggest third party developer is Gameloft, which is only big because they're blessed with the ability to rip off IP faster than anyone else. Since this is what passes for quality in the iOS market and Steve Jobs seems totally oblivious to it, Nintendo and Sony are gonna be just fine.

I fail to see how the iPad compares to X-Box with Kinect! How does one play Call of Duty on an iPad?

The point is, it's there for the iPad, and it's making a lot of money. And there are *a lot* of satisfied iPad gamers. THAT is what the competition finds so worrying. And they're right to. The iPad is hijacking the videogame industry. And folks like EA seem to like it a lot.

The iPad is only a year and a few months old. Yet look at where it is already. We can even play our iPad games on HDTVs, and do it via AirPlay with iOS 5.

Anyone who buys Call of Duty on iPad expecting the same experience they have become accustomed to on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or PC is going to be sorely disappointed.

People, including you, say Apple's offering is all about the experience. The experience of playing most games on iPad is poor and unless they offer a radical redesign of the hardware, that isn't going to change any time soon.

How does one play CoD w/a Kinect? ;)

On a related note, what I don't understand is how all these different shoe companies stay in business. I mean, you have running shoes, dress shoes, casual shoes, sandals, cowboy boots, work boots, high heels, flats, mules, clogs... the list is endless. It just boggles my mind that someone can't make one single type of shoe that fits all of these needs. I mean, it's almost like each different type of shoe fills a niche and that just because someone owns a pair of running shoes that doesn't mean that's the only type of shoe they want to wear. Could that be true though? Could someone really want to own a pair of running shoes and a pair of dress shoes?

No, that's impossible. There is most certainly a solution for a single type of footwear that appeals to all people and fits all situations. No one has just figured out how to make it yet.

Unless Apple plans to make an iPod Touch with physical buttons, the Nintendo DS is going to to VERY well.

Yeah, I'm gonna chalk it up to Apple. I'd be silly not to, given what we're seeing now, and what we've been seeing for the past few years. Nintendo and these other victims are absolutely, positively loathe to blame it on Apple. They'll use every excuse - the economy, the value of the Yen, "market reset" - all sorts of baloney, when in fact an Apple product is actually invading and hijacking their usual competitive space.

You don't blame the REAL culprit (Apple.) Why? Because that's essentially a death sentence, publicly declared.

Do you think Apple had anything to do with the uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia?

Really you are going to compare a full blown console or computer based game to a mobile device?? Well I guess the same can be said about nintendo or sony too! Your anti apple is showing.

Of course the game play must be awful on the iPad. It Shows with the amount of excellent reviews and sales by word of mouth lol. You are so biased it isn't even funny any more. Of course you have played them all and you have an iPad right? Sounds familiar. You are doing the same thing that you were so quick to accuse someone else of.

Why not? The point of this thread is apparently to illustrate how mobile devices will inevitably replace console and computer gaming.

The comparisons are already being made. Constantly. By major names in the industry. That alone is quite telling.
