Second Post for PM enable:

It's been a journey:

tls1.2 is a must for many email servers and does not seem to be particularly native to the base 10.6 environment.

After many trials here are the three imap/pop clients i would would tell someone to give a whirl.

snow monkey suite 10.6 (dev version) from wicknix's google drive:
Bigfoot print due to the "Suite Nature"
slightly unsmooth initial setup but hey it works

gyazMail
40 day trial free trial
easy setup

neomutt (macports)
terminal based
sacrifice a chicken to the config file and good luck

tls1.3 enable seems to be beyond my foo power. However I may revisit it in a month.

I got iCloud email to work in Mail 3.6 on Leopard. When I updated to 3.7, it wouldn't work.
I can try it in 10.6 which I think uses Mail 4.6.

I used this post as a starting point- https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251058871
1. Generate an app-specific password. Instructions can be found here- https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204397
2. Go to Mail on you vintage Mac and then Preferences. Add a new account. Put your iCloud email info in and make sure imap is selected. Use the app-specific password you created prior. Use the imap incoming and outgoing server information from the first link I posted.
3. That’s it. You now have iCloud email using Mail 3.6.

Unfortunately, Notes do not sync with the Notes App on iOS and MacOS. However, Notes you make in Mail 3.6 do show up in your iCloud inbox.
