“I think if you’re looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?” The Telegraph newspaper on November 10, 2015 quoting Tim Cook.

Because an easily occasionally transportable desktop, such as a Mac Mini, suits my needs and lifestyle better than some cute, somewhat delicate piece of technology that trendy folks tote from home to work, to trendy cafe, to park to beach and so on. When I leave my desk I am off line, and that's the way I like it.

I don't have a smart phone or any other iDevice. The $25 Nokia I own because there is no telephone line to my apartment, seldom leaves the top of my fridge.

The key indicator will be Xcode.
When Apple comes out with a IDE that runs on Windows, Linux, iOS or Android, the end will be near. As of now, the company cannot dump OSX and the machines it runs on, and still make software for their more profitable devices.
I'm betting on Linux. Being Apple, they'll likely choose some weird variant on Raspbian.

If Apple, for whatever reason, discontinues its PC line, I'm done with Apple. I don't own an iPhone, iPad, iWatch, or AppleTV, and I'm happy without them. But stop making Macs? I'm finished with Apple.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one that finds no need to have each and every device and stay connected everywhere I go. It can be very refreshing to be 'disconnected'.

Before I start, when he says PC, does he mean PC = Microsoft (Windows), or does he mean PC as in something with a full OS (either OS X or Windows). If he means the former, then I some what agree as I would rather run Ubuntu or OS X. But if he means the latter, then he is either crazy or he is riding one of his magic Apple joy train again.

I have similar feelings, I'm going to stay on the Mavericks for a few years. If something like this happens I probably move to Linux.

It is clear from the article quoting Tim Cook that for him "PC" means "Mac". This slip is all the more disturbing because since forever "PC" has meant Wintel. If you substitute in the word he meant, what Tom Cook said is: “I think if you’re looking at a Mac, why would you buy a Mac anymore? No really, why would you buy one?” He freaks me out, and poor Steve Jobs must be spinning in his grave. How did this guy get to run Apple? His comment explains why all the Macs in recent years seem to be off the mark technically.

No, t's not what I'd like to see, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Haha, I was just about to say the same. I'm going to Ubuntu if this happens. This might be great, it would force me to dive more into the linux world and force me to learn more things.

Does anyone remember the pre-"PC" days when there were IBM computers and “IBM compatibles” or “IBM clones”? I don’t recall when the term “PC” was first coined.

1981, when IBM released their first 'IBM Personal Computer'. Prior to that, green screen terminals were the norm in the workplace.

Maybe he's looking 5-10 years in the future. I love my mac mini but I do use it as a media / backup server. They keep their value very well so I don't mind have on around.

In my humble opinion I think that Tim knows very well that they made an error with iPad Pro... Is not a very bad product: great stylus and weight/portability, but it lacks some good productivity options... The surface pro ( besides the stupid toaster refrigerator statements) is the future and Tim Knows that Apple is forcing too much his hand with both price and scarce-fullness of functions in the pro... I'm an Apple fan ( maybe more in the past than today), but they are becoming every day more greedy.
I hope that the pro will not sell very well, like the Air 2 ( Great device that I own and is phenomenal for very much things, but not like a Mac)
If the surface pro/book will do well like I suspect and the iPad pro will not sell well next year we will probably see a macbook touch

Long story short: Tim is trying to convince more people to buy the Pro pad because he knows that is not something special
only an overpriced and big (look at that bezels in 2015!!!!) iPad

After all that poem I will buy a top end Mac mini this year :D
