Lots of rest, fluids, tea, and a full bottle of something for aches/fever/nose and chest congestion and I am feeling very tired. Went to stay with the decent brother for a few days, and he treated me to meals out (and was stupefied when I had tea, no wine and plenty of soothing vegetarian curries, or fish dishes).

Had one espresso earlier today, which tasted good.
Glad to hear you're being cared for and that you were able to have a good espresso too!

Good curries will cure you. Yum-Yum!

A Malaysian vegetable curry which my brother had loved the last time we ate there (and I had regretted not having ordered). Having learnt that the chef was Malaysian, my brother was of the view that ordering the dish which described itself as Malaysian (a Malaysian vegetable curry) would be a good idea, and it was. I recall tasting it, and it was delicious.

Anyway, to my dismay, it wasn't on the menu when we arrived for the late Sunday lunch my brother had booked (the setting was stunning, just beside a marina, and the sun was shining….lovely; apart from the fact that I honestly thought I'd keel over with flu at any minute, I thoroughly enjoyed it). However, when we mentioned this to the manager who appeared to take our order, he offered at once to ask the chef to prepare it for me, if I was prepared to wait a little longer.

It was as delicious as I had remembered, and, at my brother's suggestion, I had the sticky boiled rice (rather than fried rice, which I would normally have tried) with it. Absolutely divine.

We finished with a pot of jasmine tea for me, and a cup of coffee for him - a complete reversal of our normal beverage preferences. I drank the entire pot, along with two large bottles of water.

Even though I enjoyed my mug of clean, clear, bright, Ethiopian coffee this morning, I am also enjoying a pot (cast iron) or Turkish apple tea at the moment.

Cast iron, turkish apple tea, bright Ethopian coffee ... all words that a picture would bring wonders to the thread! On that note.. this is a central american blend with a freshly baked banana bread that just came out of the over. Happy Saturday Espress Enthusiasts!

Re pictures, for what it is worth, I still use film in my camera, and have never used a digital camera, much less uploaded anything visual, ever. Someday I may have to learn, but then, someday I must find someone who will teach me about such things.

Moreover, - something of a heresy this, these days, or, so I am led to believe - I do not, in fact, have a smart phone. My phone is an antique but pretty indestructible Nokia.

Above all, I my default setting is verbal, no visual, which means that I use - and respond to - words, not images.

Nice picture, by the way. However, personally, I'd never place a cup of coffee quite that close to an Apple computer. A good foot apart is the closest my coffee and my computer ever get to one another, irrespective of how much they'd like to snuggle up to each other.

There's nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of placing hot liquid next to cold aluminum filled with billions of transistors :D

I can well imagine. Even my glass of wine and glass of beer are also quarantined - at least a full foot away from my MBA when they share a table.

But, then, we each get our adrenaline rush by whatever method suits each of us best. Myself, I'm a deadline junkie, a condition I should have well mastered at this stage of my life.

And there appears that brilliant table of yours.....
Agreed. Must say that @BenTrovato's table is gorgeous. I love it. (Just try not to spill coffee, or beer, or wine on it). Anyway, I'm curious: what wood is it made from?

Thanks guys :) It is reclaimed wood from a barn built in 1909.. so 105 year-old Pine. I had been looking for a reclaimed wood kitchen table for a while but they are so expensive. I finally found someone who makes these tables as a hobby. It was a four hour drive, but absolutely worth it!

Okay; I'lll admit it. I love old wood, and I love seriously beautiful well-crafted wooden furniture; your gorgeous table is both and long may you continue to enjoy it. :) For that matter, I'd love something similar for myself.

Thank you! Well said. I found that in my search for a rustic hand-made wooden table, the journey is the reward. When you finally find the right piece, you know it is the one that will bring you happiness. Similar to when you find the right bean, you know that with every grind and brew, you will be enjoying a delicious beverage.

Oh, agreed.

I have been keeping an eye out for an elegant, classic, plain, understated, well made wooden desk - preferably old - for quite some time.

Seven years ago, I spotted a beautiful, but understated, plain walnut Regency writing table, and, - while I was actually offered it at half price (the crash had happened, and the antiques firm in question closed their store in my mother's town, contracting their affairs to a core business in the capital) - I was working abroad at the time and decided to wait a while and think about it. It is one of the very few things I have ever regretted not buying.

Distinguished longtime residents of - and venerable visitors to - this thread will know that I visit, buy from, and occasionally comment on, some of the products sold by the Intelligentsia (coffee) company.

Anyway, according to an email I received yesterday from them, it seems that their 20th anniversary approaches, and they intend to mark this by offering a number of special items for sale. Two of these items (a cappuccino cup and a demitasse cup) come with a fetching 'black cat' logo, and @SandboxGeneral - I thought you might like the look of them.

Ahh, yes, their 'Black Cat' brand. I've actually had some of their Black Cat espresso before. It was, shall we say, full of life, as I recall it.

That was back when I was first getting into this art, and probably wasn't making it very well either.

Those cups look amazing, and I just may order one.

Agreed. Those cups do look rather elegant and quite amazing; I'll concede that I'm somewhat tempted, myself.

However, given that an elegant gentleman named Puma now shares your life, I must say that my first thought, yesterday evening, when I received the email and clicked on the link, was of you, rather than myself.

Thus, it crossed my mind that one or two of these might grace your table admirably……..and would be a most appropriate addition to your apartment.

The addition of such a splendid cup would be apropos for my home to compliment Puma.

But, alas, I need to consider my current budget, and today may not be the day I order one.

Well, I'd say that even one of them might be a worthy addition to your chateau, and entirely in keeping with the feline theme - a homage to Master Puma.

I'm not sure how long the 'special release' will run; at the very least, I'd expect a month of two. However, I'll add that I am sort of contemplating them for myself, as they are rather elegant looking…..

Well, I have just returned from a short (work related) trip abroad, and one of the pleasures of arriving back is the slow enjoyment that can be savoured and taken from the pleasant task of preparing a nice mug of Ethiopian coffee.

So, this morning, I prepared a blend of beans from two different Ethiopian coffee farms (one was a classic Yirgacheffe, the other a Sidamo, both excellent), happily ground them (in my OE Lido manual grinder) and made a large mug of coffee in my Le Creuset (burnt volcanic orange) mug.

The coffee has the clean , bright, light sweet notes that are typical of the coffees from Ethiopia.

I shouldn't be surprised given that they've been taking a very clear move into large mass markets (selling cold brew coffee in grocery stores, etc.), but I just read that Stumptown was bought by Peet's. Hmm.
