Personally, I wouldn't buy a coffee machine, or an espresso machine (a coffee pot is an entirely different matter) that was five years old.
If it were tendered as a gift, even then, I would have considerable doubts about accepting it.
Such things - and choices - are entirely subjective, but I would buy new, or not at all. But, maybe, that is just me.
I agree entirely. A grinder is one thing...as long as the motor is sound, the burrs can always be replaced, if necessary.
An coffee machine is an entirely different matter. Especially an espresso machine, with a possibility of deposits or corrosion of the heating element, corrosion of the boiler, inconsistency in the pump, and so many other things that could be wrong with an older machine would, for me, make buying a five-year-old coffee machine out of the question.
