Yes the grinder is adjustable and when I need a new espresso grind, I will give it a try. I've never tried flavored coffee like what I saw in the store today and it's doubtful I will try it any time soon either. I do have carmel syrup and honey here at home and that's all I've used to flavor my latté's with. Maybe one of these days I'll get some vanilla syrup.

Although I'm not a big fan of flavored coffee for me, if I were to try a flavoring, a good vanilla flavoring would be the one I would try, too.:D

Oh...no apologies, please. No one in their right mind would read all 890 posts!

And if they started out in their right mind, after reading all the posts they would be raving lunatics!:D

Hahaha! You're right. Unless I'm dying of boredom.

A question, now that warmer weather is upon us do any of you like iced coffee? Please don't shoot just asking-I do like it but I find it too easy to drink a lot more than the hotter version. I do have to try making my own iced tea sometime (another thread I suppose). Coffee frappes are quite popular in some Mediterranean countries.

Nope. To me, coffee and coffee-based drinks should only be consumed hot. The cold ones taste horrible to me.

Oh, nothing wrong with having a proper iced coffee in July at the Lago di Lugano in my opinion. :D
Vanilla ice that is. Frappés, though, are not my kind of refereshment, I'd rather prefer a cold chocolate with milk in that case, but wouldn't totally decline them if the weather and circumstances dictate it. :p

I agree with you ....iced coffee is not my drink.

However, I do like strong iced tea with no sweetening with some foods.

But if this makes me a traitor or subversive...I'll try not to like it!:p

Travelling back in time, eh? I call that cheating!

Since I made some rather bold statements on the topic of grinders before: since I spoke with a good friend of mine, I actually started to change my mind about grinders with dispersers or blinds (can't recall how you named them). Have to do some research about models with those again (know about Rancillo already, will have a closer look at them this time) but if somebody here knows of a solid one with metal finish (i.e. chrome, preferably not copper ;)), please let me know!

Thank you, very kind of you. Will have a big cup of delicious coffee and plenty of time to have a look at it tomorrow morning. :)

In a coffee shop.
I have to admit that I am not a fan or flavoured coffees, and nor am I much of a fan of iced coffees. If having a coffee in a hot country, or during a hot spell, my own preference is to have a mineral water - possibly with ice and sliced lemon - with it.

Does an Affogato count? If so put me down for a YES. :D:cool:

Sorry Shrink, I know you are probably shivering at the thought of a bastardised short black like this.

Oh, that looks delicious! Although I've to admit that I'd very rarely (as in every other year or even more) taste iced coffee, I wouldn't say no to this one! Would like to know where this comes from actually. Theoretically, it seems a bit like a bastardized version introduced by some ignorants...like a Pizza Bismarck. But really not sure here.

Off-topic: did you place the soup can into a pissoir? I like it! :D

I think it's an Amertalian mashup.

The idea of placing Warhols work in the pissoir is bordering on genius to me, I wish I could take credit for it, but, alas, no.

We homeschool our boys, one is a budding artist and we covered the (brief) Dada movement a few weeks ago with much research, discussion, debate and pontification along the way. The Dada movement has always resonated well with me. I discovered this graphic somewhere on the interweb and thought it was a cool avatar in the making. I don't think too many would actually get it though.

Nice, you're an art teacher? The digital (?) collage of Duchamp and Warhol would strike me as a coolly avatar, too. :) And also much more imaginative than a detail of Botticelli for example. :D
And I agree on Dada resonating well with me, too. I've yet to find it again, but there is a Fluxus postcard which I personally found most enjoyable in it's simplicity.

And, oh well, back on topic, umm, going to enthusiastically produce some refreshment with my Bialetti.

Ameritalian? An eeediot I am, ice-cream is an American invention, isn't it? Stupid me.

No, the missus has a Masters of Education, I'm a self-employed graphic artist/designer, wannabe domestic barista.

It was my induction to good coffee, the Bailetti. I soon learnt to lower my flame/temp's!

According to some food and history shows I've seen, the Arabs were the first to make ice-cream. The Chinese, the first to make an ice-cream machine.

The idea of pouring an espresso over a gob of ice-cream is I suspect an Italian-American idea. Bitter-sweet to the taste, probably started with gelato though...

That's some food for thought! Mind and belly both equally being part of that consideration :D

And a collaboration, I might add, so much superior to the Italian-German Pizza Bismarck with potatoes and an egg on top. Ugg! Though I always saw that variation in Italy and not in Germany. Those German tourists... :D

Well, of course I am incredibly offended and appalled.

However, being the kindly, understanding, empathic, open minded old gentleman that I am, I guess I can forgive the grotesque pollution of a good shot of espresso.

(Sometimes my sweet nature even amazes me!)

Next time I'll try and allow you to progress a bit more into your morning before dropping a bombshell of an abomination on you like that.

They are called dosers. Your still better off without one, they are old technology thats now been replaced with timed or weighed grinding.

In my ongoing battle (7 years now) to get consistent near perfect microfoam and going to make a custom wand.

Part of the problem with my microfoam is the fact I only steam a small amount of milk at a time which leaves no room for error in the angle and position of the steam wand. Unfortunately the Cimbali steam wand is very close to the machine so theres not much room to move.

Im going to make one from copper first with threads for a La Marzocco tip. If it works I might get some stainless steel tube bent for it eventually.

Will be time to completely tear the machine down and rebuild it soon too, I noticed some rust on the frame which is never good.

When you are able, I'd love to see the finished product.

And good luck with tearing your machine down. I must say your commitment to that machine is so admirable. None of that throw away stuff.:D
