I purchased a mbp on the 21st and spent the week hoping, praying, and sacrificing small animals to the shipping gods in hopes it would arrive on time (oct. 2nd or 3rd). it finally shipped on the 29 and that was an exciting day but then I watched with horror and impatience as the tracking page on fed ex had the same status since the 29th at 3:00 (left orgin, shanghi, china). I called fed ex today early this morning and the lady told me there is a national holiday all week and it slows shipping down. call me crazy, I live in new orleans. we're probably one of the few places in the country that get off a whole week of school for a holiday that celebrates drinking until you throw up a boot. mail still gets delivered, I still have to go to work. why would a holiday just shut a country down?

That's it folks, don't let the possibility of people living in situation far less lucrative to your own and with the probability of their life style being compromised get in the way of you getting your computers. I say, what the hell are they doing letting a typhoon get in the way of the delivery of your shiny new Macs, don't they realise the replenishment of their rice fields, homes and basic way of life is superficial when there are people waiting for their computers so they can play online video games.

Seriously, where are you going with this. It's pretty clear that the majority of the comments here were made tongue-in-cheek. And furthermore, there is nothing wrong with being excited to get your new machine. For god's sake, the last post was a complaint about the holiday, not a natural disaster...

no you're right. i live in new orleans, we never have natural disasters. like one time there was this hurricane, but it only barely hit us so it's cool. i have no idea what it means to be away from my home for two months and returning to eat MRE's and waiting in line for three hours just to step inside a freaking grocery store. how insensitive of me.

if the reason for the delays is a natural disaster then fine. that's not what i was told by the lady at fed ex. just telling everybody what was told to me, a national holiday. even for our largest national holidays the united states doesn't shut down for a whole week.

it seems the storm must have missed or not done tremendous damage else the other folks in this thread wouldn't have gotten their lappys yet. my heart goes out to those who lost lives/homes, it really does. but i have work i need to do, its how i pay off the plastic so forgive me if i kind of sort of need that shiny new gadget.

I'm assuming, since these are shipped from China, that she was refering to the Mid-autumn Festival (aka Lantern Festival or Mooncake Festival) which is the second most important holiday in the Chinese calendar after the Chinese Lunar New Year. This year it fell on September 25 with festivities lasting several days, I think.

With this event going back over 3000 years, it's a big deal!!

Another tyfoon hit China, over a million people evacuated! Seems this one is even stronger than the last one that caused a serious shipping delay. I know, I know, it is awful and a lot worse to lose yr house in a tyfoon than having to wait for something, but I am wondering this will affect the delivery of my BTO 15" MBP ordered Sept. 5th?

you have got to be kidding me (checks the news)... o my.... but now its a tropical storm and people were evacuated so thats good... but Taiwan didnt seem to have things going in its favor...

The F-1 race went off with only mild rain. I had a 5 day delay in my shipment during the last typhoon (weekend included). It arrived within the delivery date range previously given to me before the storm.
