New Mac user here. I was on the fence of getting the Air but wanted to wait to see if there were any bugs with all the new technology. Then the MBP came out yesterday.

Price wise with the student discount MBP is $1799, MBA is $1699. I couldn't resist the bang for the buck and went ahead with a MBP purchase. More speed, upgradeable ram, bigger HD, DVD drive, etc... are hard to pass up. Plus you still have the 5hr battery, and newer/cooler CPU. All this for an extra $100 & an additional 2.4lbs over the Air.

I was in the same situation with the student discount, but went the other way. Weight is a big issue, as I use a cane. And I already have a 15" laptop at the house which is only a month or so old. Plus the LED screen is the best I've ever seen.

If they had introduced Macbooks with a backlit keyboard, I may have been a little "miffed". I think people who have never had a laptop with a keyboard that lights up, underestimate how great it is.

Now, if only I could get my Air to charge a little faster I would be in heaven.

My Air stayed in my laptop bag all day yesterday and when I pulled it out this morning, the battery life was already down to 77%. I hope that is not "normal"

That's the main reason I went with the Pro and not the standard macbook. I do a lot of work at night. I only wish Apple would add an SD card slot.

Just curious, do you actually use the multi-touch features? I thought they were cool in the keynote, and I played with them for a little while after getting my MBA, but I never actually use them.

I do use the multi touch more than I imagined. Mostly when surfing the web. I like how you can go back and forward using the web browser. The keyboard is pretty cool too (love how it lights up).

That said I also like the thought of $2K in my pocket and using a Macbook for a few more months.

MBA is priced WAY too high. Maybe at $1399 it's worth it but obviously its feature set doesn't compare to the MBP, which is only $200 more.

Good for you if you overpaid for the latest and greatest -- kind of like those overeager technophiles who got tricked on $600 iphones when they first came out.

Well, I suppose if you don't really travel very much, that is a valid comparsion. But travelling 16 days a month with a MBP just wouldn't work, and therefore be a waste of money.

I waited to see what the MBP update was. If they had made it a pound lighter it would have been a tough choice. But they didn't, so I ordered my MBA yesterday.

The Air doesn't even compete with the plain old Mac Book. Especially now. Look at the specs of a $1500 Blackbook against an Air.

Frankly they are far more computer for $300 less.

I don't get it?

I agree with the OP. While the MacBook and MBP are nice, Apple didn't do anything to the chassis to make them more appealing to me.

Loving my new MBA...
