God I sincerely hope not
I just bought the insurance for the iPad Mini and I am waiting on my confirmation email
I'm hoping that once it comes and I get the redemption details, I can retroactively apply it to my iPad Mini 4 and get my money back
If not, I'm only out $0.01

Just FYI, they ask for your serial number for verification (and since mine passed I'm hopeful)
Fingers crossed
If you’ve paid you must be good to go. Enjoy your iPad mini 5!

Is eligibility based on your purchase date? Or can it be purchased at any time and MR is banking on the fact that the majority of purchasers will not see an upgrade/update within 30 days of purchase?

Just stumbled upon this thread by accident and wow! I lucked out when I bought my 2018 MBP because I kept waiting "just a little longer" before making the purchase and the week I had intended to buy it something came up and I was distracted, too busy, couldn't buy it right then.....and son of a gun, the following week Apple announced the Vega 20 option! Wow, perfect timing for me, so I was able to get the one with Vega 20. So I was lucky that particular time but other years and other devices I haven't been quite so fortunate. I still remember how mad I was when I bought the iPad 3 I think it was, and something like four or five months later they came out with the iPad 4! I was livid. THAT would have been the time to have this great new MR buyers' guide insurance coverage!

I am not really in the market now for any new Apple products, although that latest iPad 12.9 and the new iPad mini 5 both are tempting..... My older devices wouldn't qualify now for the nifty new insurance though. However, definitely for the future I will be keeping this interesting and beneficial program in mind when the time comes to go shopping at Apple again!

Yes, I have been caught this way, with my iPad 3. Bought it at what history dictated was mid cycle, thought it was safe and then the 4 comes along. I was something like a week outside of the extended grace period they gave. Was I annoyed? A little, but I saw the benefit in still having the 30 pin connector on both my iPad and my iPhone (I had the iPhone 4 at the time.) That was at least until my 30 pin cable broke (last year) and I had to buy a new one, while I had 2 lightening cables lying around.

I loved the Mini form factor when it came out, but I was actually glad the 1st gen (released at the same time as the 4) didn't have Retina, as it made me not want to buy it when I would have hated to be stuck with my 3 while a Retina mini was out there.

To be honest, it has only really bothered me recently, as I'm having to do without some apps, together with getting notice that some others are soon to drop (moving into more vital ones.) Until the Mini was upgraded I was more annoyed than ever, as I felt like I was effectively being forced to upgrade when there was nothing being offered that I could upgrade to that I could also say that I wanted, to sweeten the pill. It was also just the knowing that a week was the difference between another year of app support and not. It would have been a non-issue had the 3 and 4 been left on the same OS.

It has made me determined never to buy an Apple product except just after release, though.

If the Mini 4 is only going to annoy you going forward, then perhaps it's best to minimise your losses and get as much as you can for it now before it loses value.

I think it can be purchased at any time
They didn't ask me my purchase date, only my serial number
Maybe they get the purchase date from Apple?? IDK

Still waiting on my confirmation email, but I was told it could be up to 24 hours
It will be worth it though

MacRumors wishes everyone a Happy April Fools' Day!

Several forum members helped us plan this thread, which was designed to lead into the MacRumors April Fool's Day surprise: MacRumors Buyer's Guide Insurance.

Buyer's Guide Insurance-ad.png

We asked @MacDawg to be the ringleader and start this discussion a few days before April Fools' Day, and he took it to the next level with his wonderful whining and self-entitlement. Other co-conspirators included @Apple fanboy, @Clix Pix, @keysofanxiety, @SDColorado, and those sneaky moderators. They all have a great sense of humor. :)

Special recognition to @tobefirst for observing that MacDawg seemed to have changed personality, with his self-pitying and his hinting that he might try to get the newer iPad Mini 4 by pretending his iPad Mini 4 came damaged.

Another salute to @redheeler for being the first to point out that this happened on April Fools' Day.

We're sorry, but you can't really buy MacRumors Buyer's Guide Insurance!

OP, I would look into 2 things.

- Go to a physical store. Managers can override the 14-day return and almost always will (esp if it's just over by a few days) as long as the unit is not damaged.

- Look into your credit card benefits.

Satisfaction guarantee
If you become dissatisfied with a product you purchase using your eligible Mastercard within 60 days of purchase, and the store will not accept a return, you may be eligible for a refund for the cost of the product up to $250.

Did someone hack into @MacDawg ’s account? This doesn’t seem like the kind of poster he is.

Thanks for noticing
I was surprised anyone knew enough about my posting to make this kind of determination :)
But yeah, it was kinda the total opposite of me and I probably went too far with it
I just couldn't stop myself once I got started, but it would have probably played better if I had kept it more toned down and believable

What I was surprised most about was NOBODY challenged my statistics at all
I mean .03% and 1.6% of buyers, (and I used it twice!), c'mon people, did that really make any sense, especially without any documentation behind it?
Just goes to show, if you act like you know what you are talking about and throw out stats, people will take it at face value... scary

Thanks to @Doctor Q and others for allowing me to participate in this extended April Fool's Event!

Oh, and I do have an original iPad Mini that I would like to upgrade
But I am still waiting on my confirmation email

The lesson here is that if you don't know the figures, just step up your game in selling the ones you make up :)

Daughter was in dire need of a new laptop in San Diego in grad school several years ago. I had told her that new MBPs were due out imminently and she went into the Apple store, told them she really needed the machine, but didn’t want to get burned by buying when something better was just around the corner. The Apple salesperson was thoughtful enough to tell her to just come back the following Tuesday. New model was out and she’s had it ever since.

One of the reasons I’m loyal to Apple.

There are no good tablets but Apple's. Google has literally ended Android support for tablets.

Feeling "betrayed" is ridiculous IMO. The iPad Mini4 was released in September 2015, that's what? 30 months ago.
That's similar to buying an iPhone SE these days - and then being bitter when Apple releases an update.

In your opinion, what would be a "reasonable" return-window for such a situation?
Two weeks? A month?

I do admit that I would never have paid full price for an iPad Mini4 in the last months. Let alone in the last week.
I'd have looked for a used one - but only if it came with a big discount.

It was just no longer good value. I'd have rather put up with a larger display.

Admit it: you made a mistake and rather than accepting the responsibility yourself, you're looking for a "way out", making someone else pay for your mistake.

Personally, I consider it a bit of a mistake that Apple even offers these "return windows".
People should make up their minds, read reviews, ask in forums and try the stuff out in a store.
Then, they should buy and not look back.

As a result, people are always second-guessing their decisions and keep looking for a better deal.

Sell it, eat the loss. Do more research next time.

Bought Airpods 1 a few days before 2's were announced. Going to keep them and get 2's anyways.
Well, a few days before would still be under the 14-day return policy (unless it's even longer than that, depending on where the AirPods were purchased).

It was, but the store I bought them from didnt have any 2's in stock. I knew the annoucement was eminent when I bought them but I needed them for a trip. I carry 2 iPhones/iPads so I think I will keep the 1's for 1 set and maybe get the new beats for the other set.
