I just spent about 10 minutes on android forums reading the threads on the S8. The complaints are numerous and very wide ranging. Just for some perspective on how the X is really doing I suggest you visit their forums. It’s the nature of forums to be more negative because people usually post to gripe or find a fix for a problem, but it’s worse over there. It just reaffirms the thought that Apples software just works.

Several threads were about people not even using the iris scanner because it was so inconsistent.

Samsung hardware is great. The issue is andriod os. It is just terrible.

But isn't it that very reason we see so many problems with Android? With no standard for biometrics every OEM must come up with its own software solution. any time a new feature is introduced it has to be implemented from the ground up until google standardizes it.

That is a big factor for sure. The fragmentation of the supported versions. In general most would agree that the majority of Samsung hardware is good. I will never touch a device with android though.

I miss my Palm Pre to this day... but more and more of its features get implemented into iOS each release.

Which forum is this?
It was android forums for the S8. I’ve been seeing so many complaints on the X that I just wanted to see if it was similar on an android forum.

I understand that all forums are going to be filled with complaints and problems, and the S8 is no exception. I was just making a point that the S8 is not superior when looking at the total package. If only looking at hardware, I believe Samsung would win hands down. But I consider the whole experience, I.E. software and hardware, the real measure of quality.

So you went there to justify a pre-existing opinion?

Nope. I went there to see if the other forums were similar in nature and found they were. THEN, I came back here to make a point. Get it?

Except your point has mainly been dismissing negative things people say about the newest iPhone on the basis that people complained about the S8. Then you said the S8 was "not superior in total package".

Seriously. You like the X? Fine. But let's not pretend this was some eye opening look at other forums. You went there looking for complaints to bring back because a phone you like is getting slagged off on these forums.

"Guys, did you know people complain on forums? This affirms Apple is awesome and Samsung isn't better" is a quick TLDR.

Meh, every phone has issues so go with what you like. I even had a flip phone once that would crash and reboot (Casio G'Zone I think it was called).

I chill here and on XDA mostly. It's because I own a product in both worlds.

This is just my opinion but most of those who are long time Android users, we are more cynical about what our devices can and cannot do. The quality is always scrutinized. Very few of us are as brand loyal because, you've gotta admit, the variety of devices with Android is huge.

And this might come as a surprise for Apple users, but for every complaint for the S8 or whatever, there are also millions of happy Android owners. They didn't just "settle" for Android because they can't afford an iPhone. I would rather buy two different Androids for $500 with two different specific talents than a $700-$1000 iPhone. I get bored of iOS very quickly.

People have different priorities on what they want to do on a smartphone. Not everyone will agree with how Apple wants it no different than ones who hate Android and prefer Apple's way. Not everyone wants to feel boxed in Apple's sandbox.

There is no right or wrong. Only preferences no different than people not having the same priorities when finding a new home, car, or mate.

Your reading one thing and coming to a completely different conclusion than what I said. I never dismissed the iPhone complaints. I made a point that it’s More of the same over there on the S8 forums.

I did say the S8 was not superior in total package....and I went on to say their hardware by itself wins hands down. You didn’t see me write that the X is better.

I never claimed it was a revelation I made. I just wanted to let those that don’t frequent other forums know that it’s not much different over in the S8 world.

I’ve had both android and iPhone over the years and my house is not loyal to one brand.

I still got my PalmPre2. The UI design was/is the best i've ever seen on a mobile device.

i wore out about 3 power buttons in the period i had my pre. but they always repaired it. thats my only complaint on the hardware. The software was just amazing. smooth and functional. maybe it didn't have all the fancy apps like iOS or android but it really had its basic features down.

Nearly every iPhone model sells between 35M-50M minimum since Apple is the only iOS OEM. That's 7-10x more than most Android OEMs that isn't Samsung.

Notes sell 15M-20M. Every device will have defects. That 1-5% complainers from Apple will be much greater than Android flagships since iPhones sell much higher.

There are millions and millions of happy iPhone users but it's no different than the people who aren't complaining about Android either or don't have time to voice their complaints online.
