Well, that sums it up very neatly. I have the same here.

I want to keep info from websites in notebooks to read them offline. I did that with copy-paste in pages, stored it in folders (to keep it organised) and uploaded it to an ios app. I thought I could do that much simpeler with evernote. So the offline incapability is no go for me.

Is there an app that let's me store webclippings/articles/foto's in notebooks/folders and let's me read it offline? My main usage for this kind of app is research. I have reminders and notes for notekeeping, so I don't use google keep. (which is also not available offline I guess).

I thought I could do that with dropbox, but yesterday I tried the offline function on my ipad and I couldn't reach my dropbox folders (maybe I need to sync first?). But a workflow like dropbox could be acceptable. See a info on a webpage, copy-paste to paper, store it in a folder, read it offline when I have the time to do research (in my corner of the world there is not an abundance of free wifi spots and I'm not on 3/4 G.)

Has Onenote offline capability? Is there an other app that does? Springpad is dead, that's one option less.

So, dear unknown stranger friends that I'll never meet, does anyone have a suggestion for me? The thanks from an equally unknown stranger that you'll never meet, will be yours.

Onenote does offline capability. Its automatic just doesn't sync your changes until you have internet access.

Oh, cool. Thanks for the answer. I give it a try right away.

Oh, btw, i wanted to try memonic, but the 100 articles restriction in the free app threw me off.

It's not that I don't want to pay for an app, but i'm not so much in to subscription fees.

Sadly I haven't found anything yet.

http://www.centrallo.com (genius, when you figure the interface out, i am already using it for what I used EN for before, when they find out of space/storage I will pay premium since I want them to stay in business)
http://www.memit.com (are becoming the heir of Springpad and will become a behemoth when they relaunch in august, the clipper is excellent, also acapable of rich notes.)
http://www.keeeb.com (Content Curation tool with a great clipper, you can take notes as well, kind of Pinterest with brains)
http://www.zimilate.com (collaboration and social CC-tool)
mammothhq.com (research and collaboration,notes)

Many of these services are quite new startups and Centrallo hasn't even officially launched yet, but be patient with them, they are after all competing with the cool kids on the block.

Were you using Evernote for work?
If so, you can have a look to Beesy. It's an iPad app for productivity that has a "smart" note taking feature. It's all-in-one so if you were using Evernote to take notes but to organize your time and tasks as well you might like Beesy. And unlike Evernote it works offline.
Unfortunately it cost $6, but it's worth it in my opinion.

If you are still looking for an alternative, I can offer you Alternote. This is a Mac note-taking app with full Evernote integration. It is launching very soon. For now you can ask me any questions and subscribe to Alternote news, so you would know when it launches.

update: I'm in bed with the devil :p

I use onenote and it is perfect for what I need. Offline availability, a clip note option that works easy for most sites (although wikipedia is not that easy, it is copy paste cumbersome), simple UI.

downside is the wikipedia copy-paste routine and if you drag and drop images they seem to drop in the middle of the page instead of neatly organized. You have to organise afterwards, which is not that difficult but pointless if it could have organization options to begin with.

Overall, I find it the perfect solution for me at this moment.

I've deleted evernote and haven't looked back since.

I use a combination of Evernote and Onenote - mostly separated along work/personal lines. I have no problem paying Evernote $50/year considering how aggressively they develop software for all platforms and how well it meets my needs. I'd spend a fortune in time trying to find alternatives, none of which could offer the flexibility of Evernote.

One of the really important things to consider in these kind of apps is the longevity of the platform. OneNote and Evernote are here to stay - I have years and years of notes in these platforms. I don't want to commit my archives to a program that may be abandoned by the developer after a couple of years.

But which is better of the two?

That's a lot harder to answer.

OneNote is undoubtedly more powerful, and Evernote's old advantage of cross platform compatibility is quickly fading. Still, there are times when Evernote's comparative simplicity wins out over the power of OneNote.

Still, to choose only one, it would surely be onenote for me.

I agree, onenote is better.
