Question for the Link Bracelet owners/pros: has apple changed the endlinks that go into the watch body over the course of the generations? Basically, does the link bracelet suffer from the same "not quite right" fit with the newer (41/45mm and especially 49mm) case shapes as the 38/42mm classic buckles? Even the 38mm sport bands are just barely "off" on my 41mm Series 8, but certainly not enough to be a major problem. On a much more expensive band, however, it would definitely bother me. I ask because I can only seem to find 38mm bracelets on the secondhand market.

I got your concern. The end link is called the lug. My link bracelet is said to be manufactured in Jan 2023 (as it shown on the box label), and the lugs fit perfectly the 44/45mm. I am surprised that despite the link bracelet was manufactured in 2023, it's still shown as 42mm instead of 45mm.

My guess would be the link bands have never physically changed so that is why they are still listed as 38mm/42mm because those were the watch cases they were originally designed to fit and Apple has not enlarged the lugs for the larger Watch bodies.

I never noted any kind of fit issue with my Space Black Link Bracelet with my Series 4, but maybe I was not looking hard enough or the black on black hid it.

Yeah, as it is still listed as 38/42, it certainly hasn‘t changed. Fit is still fine, though, if you‘re not nitpicking. Plenty of pictures on the internet to decide if it is „perfect enough“ for you. Also, all these years later, it’s still the best band ever for the Watch.

The link bracelet design, in totality, is unchanged from 2015. Even the EVT models are almost physically identical. The problem is, with a retail price of $349, nobody wants to buy them. Apple doesn't sell enough to justify the R&D costs to make a slight change in the design, let alone retooling the assembly line that, afaik, doesn't even exist anymore.

The 38mm link bracelet will fit your 41mm watch, but yes, you'll notice the curve of the lugs not quite matching up exactly. It's not a lot, but it's there. The link bracelet is a thicker lug though, and of course it transitions right into the links, so that should make it harder to notice.

Your link bracelet most definitely did not get manufactured in 2023. The box itself was probably printed in 2023, but the band is still from 2017/18 at the latest. Apple made more of these than they could sell, cut production before the Series 4 was even out, and just repackaged all the link bracelets they were sitting on. Apple still has hundreds, if not thousands of these sitting in a warehouse to be sold. Once they're out though, the link bracelet will be fully discontinued.

Don't suppose anyone has both the new Bright Orange and the older Papaya bands do they? I'm wondering how similar they are

Many thanks and hugs to everyone involved in the research and translation of over 600 bands and colors in different countries and regions. We had great help from the community, and added 12 additional languages —like Italian, French, German, Korean, and Japanese— for now, with more to come in the future.

Thank you! As for now, we're not tracking and do not offer any option to track the date when you bought a band —and it's not necessary the same date as when added to collection (even if a unicorn is heavily breathing every day you missed to update your collection in the app.) Without this information a timeline is not possible. Eventually, weʼre working on some new stats and insights, so stay tuned to get to know you collection even better.
