Most Apple Watch bands do this. My dad has a black Apple Watch band and it was exactly like you said and the matte soft finish was all shiny with sweat. I gave it a clean with water and cif and with a bit of elbow grease and it looks and feels brand new. I do this with all my bands when they get all sticky and gros. Hope this helps! 😄
I did try cleaning it and it made no difference. It honestly looks like a finish or coating is wearing off and badly at that.

Hows the comfort on it? I have the black and saddle leather bands. I was thinking about trying the classic too. I’m really fond of those two, especially the saddle brown, it looks so good with my sbss.
The leather is supple and pretty comfortable. It's just the right thickness to make typing on a laptop still smooth if you're a palm-rester like I am. I like to wear my leather bands tighter than my link bracelet so I definitely feels the presence on my wrist.
I got it from ChargerStore on eBay. According to the seller this band was "intended as a demo version since Apple never officially released a classic buckle with black lugs/buckle". At first I was a bit skeptical that he just swapped the silver parts for black ones, but because the buckle can't be changed I think he's telling the truth. Besides all the details of an original Apple bands are there too.

Which size?
I use a "Xchangeables Clear Storage Box", which I'm pretty sure I found through the Watch band storage trays, cases and boxes thread pinned at the top of the list here. The pics on Amazon are misleading, because they put some weird colorful jar behind it, and then get odd shadows on the white backdrop. Makes it look all tarted up when it's not, it's a simple straightforward compartmented plastic box.
I don’t think the gold color is a great match with the SSG (S4), although in athousandbands picture, it looks perfect. And the clasp just feels/sounds kind of cheap. I fully get what people meant by “overpriced”! It’s my only dressier band and I guess I’ll keep it (although I very carefully put the box away, just in case). Honestly, I know I’m picky so between materials and colors, I guess I really need to see things in the store!
