It’s in Chinese, if you don’t mind (Open it with a desktop browser, in mobile it would promote the app of the marketplace, which is only available in China...):

https://2.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2007.1000337.16.4.46f25ca9iARBdg&id=559229100216

Do you think it's legit? This is so weird...

I’ve bought replica bands from Taobao before. There’s thousands of band sellers and they’re like AliExpress.

I would say they’re just good replicas and not genuine.

it's actually Xianyu (the Chinese second hand marketplace by Alibaba), but all of their link would redirect as a Taobao overseas (I don't live in China)... Alibaba has several brands (Taobao is the biggest, Xianyu is for second hand stuff, Tmall for official stores, and Aliexpress for overseas)

I'm not sure about this one though (I know that 90% of the things on Taobao are replicas, and some are really good)...

It's weird because officially this color doesn't even exist, and if it's a replica, why bother adding the details like "assembled in china" when it's not copied from any of the official products.
[doublepost=1524177877][/doublepost]I checked some more pictures, and things get even weirder... the Chinese word of "2017 Year of Chicken" on the back of the band, in some pictures are in Simplified Chinese, and in some others are in Traditional Chinese... Doesn't even make sense to make 2 replicas which are almost the same but different in one character...

I think it's totally possible that Apple intended on releasing this as a special edition (like they did with the Red/gold pin Sport Band for Chinese New Year in 2016), but ended up not doing so for whatever reason.

I thought it was just a fake at first, but why bother putting the tiny serial number on the band connector?

That's what I thought too... I've seen replicas with "Assembled in China", but never seen replicas with serial number inside the connector...

Anyway, I don't think they ship overseas like Aliexpress though...

I had found it from a different seller (but on taobao) for a little cheaper than that.

I haven't bought from this one exactly, but I did buy a midnight blue for my wife from a similar store and it was imperceptibly different from my own midnight blue. I'm tempted to give it a go, especially if it's rare, and at ⅓ the cost of a brand new one.

I've had that happen on many bands. When I cleaned some of my bands with a Magic Eraser, it removed this "coating" as well. Can someone tell me, though, what it actually is? Does it matter or hurt the band if it is no longer there? Of the bands I have, I see no visible wear on any of them...

Does anyone think Apple will change the upcoming AW Series 4 design? As rumors are swirling of a redesign. I really hope IF they do, they don't redesign the parts of the watch where the bands connect. That would be awful as all these bands we've collected over the years can no longer be used with future watches.

That's something I worry about every time they update the watch, but I don't think it will be changed anytime soon. The design is really perfectly executed. Its thin enough that they could still make the watch much thinner. I think eventually the band connector will change, but not in the next 3 years. The design just works too well and would annoy too many people. It would be change for the sake of change.

Jony Ive, lead designer of the AW has stated publicly circular smart watches don’t make sense. For this reason, while Apple might change their design slightly, I don’t anticipate it to be drastic where the bands would no longer fit. Not at least anytime soon.

Some of their bands are over $400-500 and they run the risk of hurting sales of newer models because people with the expensive bands will be less likely to upgrade.
