I'm a programmer, simply put. I code several languages to create webapps and desktop applications, I work for a few companys freelance and I build websites for others.

OK. I'm going to not (as after my initial annoyance, I decided I'd be more mature) swear here. Please don't be a stupid uninformed assumptive person, you may be surfing the web and sending/receiving emails, but I'm not, just because you don't need it, doesn't mean others don't. I have it because I can afford it, and I can afford it because I work, and I need it for my work. Admittedly, I don't need the dual 30s, but they help me work especially when I'm doing complicated UML.

You should be outside.

Someone can't take a joke! I wasn't attacking you, but making a more general statement about how well-off we are in the western world. But I'm not trying to make any sort of grand statement here against you or people your age; I love computers too. If I had the money, I'd probably buy plenty of stuff. And it's not that I'm jealous. I had a good childhood. My parents took very good care of me, and I admittedly took it for granted. It's just a bit shocking looking back and seeing really how well-off you and I are. I don't know many 14-year-olds these days, but when you grow a bit older, you might look back and think the same thing, even about yourself.

Carry on.

I'm 17. Here's my setup:
  • MacBook Pro
    • 200GB HD
    • 4GB RAM
    • 2.4 Ghz
    • 15 inch screen
  • iPhone 3g - 16GB, White

I am also a programmer and attend Brigham Young University - Idaho. Hopefully, when I release the iPhone app that I've been working on, I'll be able to buy a new MBP. :apple:

Here is my newly reorganized setup. There is my 2.0ghz 20inch iMac, HP Photosmart C4280 printer, iPod touch, WD My Book 500gb drive (hard to see, behind the iMac and iPod), my cordless house phone, Universal Remote, Mirage Omnisat Speakers (found sitting in the basement unused), Harman/Kardon AVR 220 A/V receiver (also found in basement), light, fish tank pencil cup, and my newly purchased Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 7000. The first picture is of the whole setup, the second is of just the iMac and smaller peripherals, and the third is of the iMac with the ambient light provided by my USB hub. (Not pictured: Sharp 26" 1080i LCD TV) By the way, I am almost 15.

You should be outside.

Lol exactly. At that age I was riding my bike around causing trouble with the other neighbourhood kids, trying to steal porno mags, playing football on the beach, etc

For some people here, you have the rest of your life to be coding/making money. You go to school, so you must do all that stuff when you get home and on weekends. You should be having fun and enjoying your childhood before it's too late.

what was the equivalent of that machine today?
Hmm it was a mid-spec PC at the time, your standard family noob-box. It's equivalent would probably be a Dell core2duo with 160gb hard drive and 2gb ram. If laptops were affordable back then, it would be equivalent to a base model macbook. But the thing is, I had that from the age of 13 - 17, quite a long time.

Sorry. It's just everytime I post my setup here, people say stuff like that. It just annoys me a little. Sorry again.

I didn't say all work and no play :p. I do all that stuff, I just manage my time very well, and go to sleep very late. :)

In the Depths of the SLC!
I just turned 19 this year, but I thought I would post my set ups over the past few years up until now! My set up has changed quite a bit! Going from a super slow computer on a "not desk" to a faster computer in the same case (still the same computer now), as well as getting a Mac! Here it is...

This is the first photo I have of my set up. This was when I was 16.

p3110002xy6.jpg

This was after I got my flat panel LCD! This made a huge improvement on the look of my desk, especially when I re-arranged everything.

This is the same set up all re-arranged.

This was just after I got my glass desk, up until now I am 16, this is at 17 years old.

This is my setup at 18, a LOT of equipment has changed. I now have a MacBook and do not use the PC anymore. This setup only has the 360 connected to the monitor.

This was my setup before I got my iMac last week. I am 19 here. MacBook connected to external monitor.

And here is my setup as of yesterday morning. Got my new iMac (thanks Maccam!). No more MacBook for me. I also have my PC connected to my TV as a media center test (new thread on that soon...)

I only qualify for this thread for one more month, so here's probably my last update. I apologize for the awful lighting and grain. The iPhone camera isn't a great camera.

More info through flickr notes if you click them.

My Hackintosh. Fulfills my work needs and gaming needs (along with my consoles).

You can never have too much screen real estate. I do lots of development and multimedia work and my four screens are never enough. I fully understand where you're coming from. People really just do not understand. Until they have a setup like that themselves. :p

It was a joke. You know, ha-ha , funny.

Or did everyone on here lose their sense of humor.

Yes, yes they did. Everyone's rather negligent here today. I took a joke, but it was kind of meaningless seeing as I do go outside.

The eMachines was my first computer, I got it 4 years ago. It was given to my by my Uncle, as my first computer, I was thrilled. It has 256mb of ram, 80GB HD, with a 10GB Restore Partition. I actually still have the original motherboard, ram, fan, power unit, and HD sitting in a computer box in my closet.

I got sick of how slow the eMachines was, so a year and a half after I got it I upgraded to the specs you see now, the dual core AMD and all that jazz. I had it in a new case for a while, but the case was so big and I just had so many issues with it I just gave it to my friend. I then put all the new computer parts in the eMachines case, as it is in now.

And I haven't gotten another PC since! Thank goodness!

haha lucky. did you ever have problems with the fan? my fans get extremely loud sometimes, and then everything runs slow and i can't shut it off so i just unplug it. i know that's bad, but whatever.

I never had fan issues, at one time though when I had my custom pc, I had four fans in that beast. It was so loud!

Yeah, that eMachine's comp would get so slow sometimes I would just unplug it too. The new power supply I got for it had a kill switch making it that much easier!

i think there is two fans in mine, and when they speed up it's very very loud. i don't know if there is like a fault with mine (too late to do anything about it besides replace the damn thing) or if it's just like cheap fans or something.

i don't want to "customize" this computer because it has all my school files, but if i ever replaced it i would screw around with the insides just to see what i could do
