problem solved:
i donwloaded an older version ( 5.141.0.1 ) and boot my pc in freedos.
first attempt:
Code:
nvflash -5 -6 gtx780.rom
leads to an ERROR: mismatch in 256 byte page-mode programming, and the vbios wasn't flashed correct.
what i mention was a line: clear bios ( ? )
so i give it a second try with the same command.
there was no device-id stored anymore and the flash just going right.

From my experience, I have successfully flashed several 980s and 1070s under Linux already.

I have a GTX780 rom from the mac elite wiki.
I tried to flash it to a Phantom 780 card and it works in windows, but it will not boot properly on mac (bootscreen is ok, and loadingbar shows, but it gets stuck after about 2/3 of the booting bar).

Is there multiple 780 ROMS for different versions of the card?

How can i see what version of the chipset i have on the card?

I did many 680 and they all work perfect, never a problem.

thanks for any insight on this!

Try PRAM-reset, try vanilla (factory) rom, try card in pc to exclude a failing card.

If it works with factory rom, you should better use OC or modify the rom. To my knowledge, this EFI is based on nvidias GTX680-EFI and has no copy protection.

I tried multiple P-ram reset. And also the card works fine when booting into windows as i mention in first post.

However it will freeze when booted up into OSX.

I can run it with the Mac-Flash or with the PC-Flash, in windows bootcamp it runs perfect both ways.

However, as i said, wont boot properly into OSX for some reasom that i dont know.

Are there different GTX780 flashes floating around? Is there another "vanilla" rom?

I used the one in public download..

Anyone knows how to check what version of the card i have? and what version the Mac Roms supports?
My card is Phantom model.

What do you mean by "use OC" or "modify the rom"?

You mean to OC = OverClock the original Mac ROM, or the PC Rom?

I didnt really get to understand how this would give med bootscreen on the GTX780.

Thanks

Oh, not interested in OC. Just want a card that works perfect all the time with no OC or other software drivers and stuff. That is why i went with 780. Supposted to work as good as 680 but faster.

Maybe the Phantom is to different from reference design, thats why it wont run? I read PCB is bit different.

Flashed couple of 4Gb 680 cards from Phantom and that worked perfect. But 780 is another thing i guess.

I tried now 2 different GTX780 ROMS with same result.
They give bootscreen, and get stuck in middle of boot process 2/3 of bar in OSX.
They both work perfect in Windows 10 on same Mac Pro 5.1.

I think this is because i am running the Phantom GTX 780 model that is not 100% reference design, if anyone else managed to get this card working pls let me know. Until then i advice others not to use this card. I have flashed many cards, but this one i now tried 2 different ROMs, and different OSX versions, and none is working.

Card looks like this:

Thanks for your support guys!

And thanks for the ROMs i got.
