Looking through the tutorials on both websites, the 1Pass system does seem much much more useful. Think I will hold off on the others.

I wanted to correct an inaccuracy. The iPhone 1Password App WILL have wallet items. According to the 1Password official support forum, "The synced wallet items will appear on iPhone". The downside is that "You won't be able to edit them in 1.0." So it will store wallet items, and sync those from your desktop, but it won't have the ability to enter new wallet items in 1.0.

Gotcha, my apologies for the misinformation. I bought SplashID, and like it so far, but I really like 1password's double layer security for moderately important stuff, and then really important stuff. I have two qualms:

-While the iPhone app will be free, 1password for the mac costs $35 (I know splashID costs 10 for the iphone app and 20 for the desktop, but i already bought the iphone version)

-I'm not sure about the whole browser implementation and how that works. I don't really need autocomplete, as the main reason I need those passwords is for reference to tell people, not to actually use it in some other page on the iPhone itself.

Oh well...

I'm looking for a way to reduce the cards in my wallet to the absolute essential and I'm even looking to give up carrying a wallet altogether.

In doing this, I'm aware that I have to do away with my loyalty cards like Air Miles and store points cards. For that, I'm creating an album in iPhoto where I'm saving a high definition version of the barcode for those cards:

Will 1Password or eWallet do this? I've seen another app in development that proposes to do exactly this:

Tap Wallet.

I'm not particularly fond of the non-iPhone-like interface on eWallet. Both 1Password and TapWallet conform better to the look and feel of iPhone apps. Developers should note that the interface – specially on iPhone – is a very important part of making a great app.

eWallet

I read, in the iTunes store that sync features for eWallet and Mac will be available this fall. However when I go to eWallet's site I see no mention of an eWallet desktop version for the Mac. Does anyone know if eWallet for the Mac will be released as well?

eWallet does look pretty cool but I need to be able to sync.

Ok...here it is, I gave "A Personal Assistant" a go and it failed miserably, it is a total waste. So now I am back to 1Password and eWallet. I love the way that 1Password connects to the website and for almost all, logs you in with your user name and password. eWallet only takes you to the URL but does not log you in even though you have put user name and password in the fields.

The other difference is 1Password syncs only with desktop software for a Mac where, according to their website, eWallet will be able to sync with Windows and Mac this month.

So here is my dilemma...I want the Windows desktop sync (not a website) of eWallet and the connection capabilities of 1Password. Is there anyway to get eWallet to input the User Name and Password into the website? Or is there another App that accomplishes my stated criteria?

Thank You
Gary

SFC Archer, that was EXACTLY the same issues i had with the two.. the things oyu like about 1password and ewallet and dislike about them are the same as what i felt.. I ended up going with ewallet because i TRIED 1password and inputting data in there was like banging my head against a wall.. try it! Its free right?? it was when i downloaded it.. AWFUL UI, and unless the recently updated, not usable in my eyes..

ewallet is amazingly simple to input data and almost fun because you can customize a lot of things.. once you get all the normal stuff in, added a password/username here and there is not that hard at all..

i do WISH that it would autofill the fields in the websites, but its not THAT hard to remember the username and password in the few seconds it takes to get fromt he app to the browser.. it would be nice.

If you read their BLOG section of their site, you will see where the bring up the syncing capabilities.

LOL...I figure you would respond Lind, I saw one of your other posts relating to the same thing. I have both and now its a matter of which one...I am really fed up with feeding these apps data of coarse I can now type about 1000 characters a sec now :D but I was hoping someone would no how to build the URL or the IP to allow for it to populate the username and password like 1Password does. It looks like I will go with eWallet but they better hurry and get the desk top app out so I can sync. Anyway, nice to finally chat with ya!

hah.. thanks. It was quite a frustrating thread to say the least. So many people had so many "opinions" that they were preaching as fact.. anyways, since 1password is free, it wouldnt be TOO bad if you had to switch back..

Its been days with ewallet and i am STILL very happy.. and yea, TOTALLY frustrated with pageonce.

Well folks...here is a reply back from 1Password as far as getting a Desktop application for windows:

Hi Gary,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

At this time we are not planning a "full blown" Windows version of 1Password. What we will be doing, however, is enabling 1Password touch to sync with MobileMe so you can easily backup your data. This new feature is a fairly high priority for us, but I do not have an ETA to give you at this moment.

Sorry I don't have a better answer for you at this time but we will have much better Windows support soon.

Cheers!

End Email

So...you can pay additional $'s if you do not have mobile me (which I WILL NOT do) and for those of you with mobile me...this is a good thing. For the rest of us windows users, its time to make a choice...mine is eWallet. Even though 1Password is free...it won't be for long...i guess you gotta pay somewhere and I already purchased eWallet so I might as well use it and get the desktop when released.

There it is...take it for what its worth.

eWallet on PC/Mac

Hello again, With my continued research to determine which one to use, I have now received a reply from the makers of eWallet which is as follows:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Ilium Software. eWallet for iPhone/iPod Touch will be able to synchronize wirelessly (local wi-fi) with a Windows desktop computer once we release an update to the iPhone version. We expect this free update for the iPhone/iPod eWallet to be available by the end of August, 2008. We hope to have a Mac desktop version available later this year.

For more information about how sync will work and what you will need, check out this article from our product manager:

http://blog.iliumsoft.com/?p=423

Previous eWallet Owners:
-----------------------------------------
If you don't own eWallet for desktop PCs, or own a version older than version 6.0, you will need an update to the latest 6.1 version in order to receive the free sync update.

***If you have purchased eWallet for iPhone _before our sync update release_, we can register you for the latest version at no charge. Send us a copy of your iTunes Store email receipt (or a screenshot of your order history from within iTunes), and set the subject line to FREE DESKTOP EWALLET.

Once the sync updates are released, you will be able to sync any wallets you have on your desktop PC and any you have created on your iPhone/iPod itself.

Data Backup Without Sync:
--------------------------------------------
Without desktop synchronization, iTunes will back up your eWallet data along with the program itself like all your other iPhone/iPod Touch applications.

Thanks again for contacting us and feel free to contact me if you have any other questions,

End Email.

So as it stands (for me and windows) right now...1Password is now out since they do not specify when or even if they will build a PC desktop app. eWallet however looks good for the end of this month at the latest and for Mac "sometime" this year. Read the blog link, its pretty informative. I think that I have found my encrypted App for storage of PW/Usernames.

Hope this has helped out some of you in making a decision.

Good Luck
