I’m currently in the iPhone Upgrade Program through Citizens One and I already made the required payments, so it shows I’m eligible to upgrade.

Since Apple changed it to the new Apple Upgrade program with Klarna, how is it going to work for existing users when the new iPhones come out next month? Will they let us get preapproved before pre-orders?

Also, what does the Klarna application ask for? Is it just your information and maybe a text code, or do they require a photo ID? I really want to know if photo ID is required.

And what cards can you use for the payments? Can you use Apple Card?

you will be able to use apple card, and as long as you have 12 payments on your program you can switch to the new one. thats all the info we have atm as its a new program we will have to see when the new iphones launch if they allow pre approved or not

There is no information yet about exactly how it will work. I too have been on the IUP through Citizens One for years. It was glitchy at first but smoothed out nicely. Just in case it helps, I did set up a Klarna account and chose Apple Card as my primary form of payment as I now Klarna will accept that for the AUP lease. My main concern is whether there will be an opportunity to get ready for pre-order day. Klarna has never handled an Apple event. If we have to apply for the lease and wait for approval on pre-order day, I believe it will be a giant cluster, and for those of us who choose Klarna lease, delivery times will slip.

I did the same. Tried to do a test pre-purchase for $3,000 [which is what I estimate the fold will cost] and got denied. Checked and saw purchase power set at $1,000.

I'm hoping the Apple Upgrade program is seperate.

I don't think the $1,000 purchase power shown in your Klarna account necessarily applies to Apple Upgrade. Apple Upgrade is a separate lease product offered through Apple and Klarna, and Apple says you apply for the lease during checkout and Klarna determines eligibility at that point. Since Apple Upgrade covers products costing well over $1,000, a universal $1,000 cap wouldn't make much sense.

So I wouldn't panic over the $1,000 figure yet.

A quick update/correction to my earlier post: Apple has now published more information about how Apple Upgrade will work. Apple says customers will select Apple Upgrade as the payment option and complete a Klarna lease application during checkout. Klarna will then determine eligibility and approval for that lease.

What Apple still hasn't explained, as far as I can find, is whether there will be a pre-approval or “Get Ready for Preorder” process before iPhone preorder day, similar to what we had with IUP. That's the part I'm most concerned about. Having thousands of people complete Klarna lease applications during the preorder-day rush seems like a recipe for delays and slipping delivery dates.

I did the same for a much smaller purchase ($1800) and also got denied. Same $1,000 purchase power. Hopefully Apple Upgrade is separate from this.

It sucks Apple left IUP was simplest thing ever.

Sidenote from someone who just pre-ordered the Mac Studio M5 using Apple Upgrade lease by Klarna.

Klarna is working inside Apple's checkout so there is no separate "Klarna app" for the lease.

Mine was approved for $2500 after checking my email and cell phone # with a SMS text message from Klarna.

No hard credit pull - it was a soft pull.

All this was done while checking out on the Apple store:

So they did not ask for a photo ID or picture of you .

Did they text you codes or how was the process to get approved?

No ID, last 4 SSN or anything to submit.

Apparently they link your Apple ID account with your email and phone numbers so Klarna sends a SMS message to your phone to confirm.

It was very easy and very quick to get approval - less than 5 seconds.

In the past I rarely used Klarna for any purchases, except once or twice so they may have my info in their system ?

I’m gonna ask you one more question

I’ve been in the iPhone Upgrade Program since 2017. My dad originally filled out the application on my phone under my Apple ID and we never had an issue.

For the new Klarna lease, we’ll still be upgrading my phone through my Apple ID, but the application will use my dad’s information and his phone number. Everything is basically the same except our emails and phone numbers.

Since my phone number is the one enrolled in the iPhone Upgrade Program, will Klarna text the phone number we enter on his application, or will it automatically text the number linked to my Apple ID?

So me and my dad have separate Apple ID but both are link to his name and his card and
Good question.

I have 2 Apple IDs so I used my personal ID and email instead of my work ID.

The phone number can be changed just before you submit for Klarna approval.

It originally pulled up my work number so I changed it to my personal phone # and it went thru for SMS verification.

Both Apple IDs have the same name, but different emails and phone numbers. Since I'm doing the application on my phone using my Apple ID, can I change the email address and phone number during checkout so everything gets correctly linked to his information and he gets the text message verification codes?

Maybe I missed it, is there an answer to the 'do we need to pay off the last 12 months of the Citizens loan' or not, when we transfer to Klarna? I can't find anything elsewhere except tough ****, pay it off.

We only have to pay up to the 12 months of the day. We started the loan after the day that we’re eligible to upgrade that’s about it I was told.
