Also REGARDLESS of how you are set up, always have a robust and diligent backup strategy in effect. Even the best brands of HDD/SSD/PCIe can unexpectedly fail.

Even using a failure-prone brand of SSD should not put you at significant risk of data loss.

People seem shocked when I tell them my primary boot drive (Accelsior) is a RAID0 SSD, but my Time Machine backup strategy is a proven safeguard against drive failure.

Word. Running a RAID 0 here as my main files AND boot drive, but backed up 3-daily by Carbon Copy Cloner AND Time Machine.

Anyone using the Accelsior_E2? Are there any other upgrades other than the eSATA ports (which I don't really need)?

As if my words were prophetic... I had an issue with my Accelsior E2 where the data corruption got worse and worse. Sent it back to OWC and they tested it, seems one of the blades failed. So they're swapping the blade out and sending it back. Will let you know how the replacement goes.

Luckily my robust backup system saved my bacon and I didn't lose any data.

Accelsior Issues

I have had my 120GB accelsior in my 2008 Mac Pro (purchased used) for about 2 weeks now. Just this morning I did a shut down (via mac osx) to setup a UPS that I had replaced the batteries in. The new old machine has been dreamy so far but when I went to start it up again the system did not recognize the accelsior boot drive. I wound up having to boot off of an old snow leopard disc to get it to recognize the card. Fairly disappointed. Haven't tested this again but if it continues I will surely be calling OWC for tech support or returning the card and going with another option.

My experience with the OWC 240Gb Accelsior was a total disaster. Not waking from sleep to not allowing my system to shutdown to hanging up. Tech support was condescending with no real suggestions to resolve the problems. I am returning it tomorrow and getting a Sonnet Tempo Pro.

I have been running a bootable OS X 1TB RAID-0 SSD using the Sonnet Tempo Pro card with a pair of 512GB Crucial M4 SSDs for about a year with no operational, boot, or sleep issues in a 5,1 Mac Pro. I have been very pleased with it and get mid 900 MB/s speeds in DiskSpeedTest (screenshots posted elsewhere). While the external eSATA ports on the Accelsior could have been useful, I have now switched my external backup drives to USB 3.0 and all is working well.

Sad to hear it.
I have one in my 5.1 and has been working like a charm.

On a side note i am tempted to try the sonnet tempo solution with a RAID0 array, considering the feedback and impressions i have read on this forum!

Thank you

Similar happened to me. After a full shutdown and reboot, Accelsior never came back online, though did show up in System Report/PCI. Pulled and reseated, and it I think by coincidence, it worked for another week or so, then that was it. OWC was no help as out of warranty. My impression is these cards do not go the distance. So I replaced with a different brand.
