But Apple wants to make sure you have the thinnest and lightest desktop computer possible. Just in case your desk is made out of newspaper and can't support the weight of an actual tower. :D

The issue isn't the desk, I keep my tower PC on a nice computer cart off to the side. I actually keep a pretty sparse desk - just monitor and 2 speakers. So I think the whole "thin desktop" is a red herring by Apple. They just don't want to cannibalize the iMacs at all. But I wouldn't buy an iMac anyways, so I don't see their logic.

A cheap Mac tower would be awesome he it just isn't going to happen. Their Mac Pro users would just buy the cheaper tower and customize it, and it would hurt iMac sales.

The Mini really isn't a bad machine for what it is.

If you were a power user, you would get the mini server with the 7200rpm drives vs the 5400rpm drives in the basic mini.

Get the "desktop" mini... and replace the hard disk ;) Plus add an external one. No need to pay the extra money for the "server" when the mini is already overpriced...

Don't suppose you'll be test Battlefield Bad Company 2 once you get Boot Camp installed?

Unfortunately do not own that game, sorry.

For those wondering about TF2, it runs on medium settings (the games recommended settings) just fine so far.

Yep, the mini would have to be a good bit bigger (probably just taller) to handle an i7 due to the heat generated by the chips. It would be pretty awesome though.

I did the math and by the time you replace the memory and hard-drive on the desktop mini, you are at the cost of the server version anyway.

I think it's more about not directly competing against the strength of the pc market.

+1 for me as well, mine arrives on the 12th. However, this is going to be my media center machine.

Nabby

I third that, Mine ships on the 20'th! My first mac/computer. :)

This is going to be my little work horse for school and freelancing. :)

Hey, thread starter, do you experience some lag at the dock sometimes? I also got the 2010 mini and I am running 1080p.
Sometimes the dock gets a little choppy for a few moments.
Its weird. Apart from this, everything is goood!

Not at all, but I don't use magnification when scrolling over the icons, maybe that is the difference? I really don't see why that would make it laggy though, something sounds amiss.

some say tha in the very first days its common. Can anyone confirm that ?
