Same problem with LG 24UD58 and MacBook Air M1 connected with usb-c to DisplayPort cable. Somebody find the solution?

Never found a solution and still having same problem with macOS Monterey on a late 2021 M1 MacBook Pro

Have the same issue with connected with my Samsung 4K display, using the MBP 2020! Pretty annoying!

I ran
Code:
pmset -g log|grep -e " Sleep " -e " Wake "
and found that there were some random processes waking it, but can't figure out what the applications are or do.

  • Wake from Deep Idle [CDNVA] : due to AOP.OutboxNotEmpty voice_trigger/Notification Using AC (Charge:100%) 10 secs
  • Wake from Deep Idle [CDNVA] : due to SMC.OutboxNotEmpty smc.70070000 pwrbtn/UserActivity Assertion Using AC (Charge:100%)

I have the exact same issue, Samsung 4k, connect to Macbook M1 with USB C to Display port. My old Macbook (2015) also has the same issue connecting to the same monitor by Display port. It's because of the Display Port, using HDMI doesn't have that problem. It's not because the Mac is waking up. I tried to monitor it, no process is waking the Mac up but it seems that the power still pass through the DP while sleeping, hence the Samsung monitor keeps waking up. Haven't found any solution..

I want to say thank you to the person who suggested the firmware update. I had tried every trick in the book on MacOS with no success. Got the firmware update for my LG 38uc99-w monitor, installed it to a USB stick and updated the monitor firmware from 3.07 to 3.11, and it's staying asleep now!!

Same for me...
Probably it will help, the issue for me was in programs that have access to the microphone and/or camera. E.g. when I had a call with Zoom and Zoom after that was working (not closed) - the monitor woke up constantly, if I closed Zoom - the monitor slept fine. The same with Slack. If I have at least one call with Slack - the monitor will not sleep, but if I just restart it - the monitor will sleep. I have MBP M2 Pro Max and monitor connected via HDMI.

Here we are Nov 16, 2023, and the problem still plagues thousands of Mac Users, me included on a brand new Mac Studio and a Dell 32" 6K monitor. I've tried everything, including all of the suggestions throughout this thread, and a lot more, and still the monitor wakes up constantly checking for the thunderbolt connection even though the Mac Studio remains sound asleep snoring like a baby. Apple has no idea what's going on. Neither does Dell who blames it on Apple, and Apple told me that I should call Dell. By the way, every possible notification has been shut off, and all non-essential login programs are shut down, and all background programs are not searching for updates or firmware updates and all permissions are shut down. All notifications to anything and everything, including other devices, are shut down.

I have another issue that I cannot say is unrelated, and that is the Mac Studio keeps waking up all by itself, randomly it would appear. Apple techs have no idea what is going on even though when you search the Internet you find thousands of complaints over quite a few years, not just the recent OS upgrades, and not just M1 or M2. Same here. New Mac Studio, and LG 34" Ultrawide monitor, connected via USB-C cable.

I tried the command mentioned

Bash:
pmset -g log | grep -e " Sleep " -e " Wake " | tail -40

and got the following output. The data clearly shows the mac is solidly in sleep mode.

Code:

Yet the monitor still has a faint glow, as it's not fully asleep. When I first tell the mac to sleep, the monitor goes completely black, but only for a few seconds.

Hmmm

I have a little more information. When my mac studio goes to sleep, the monitor goes completely black, for exactly 5 seconds. Then it returns to a faint glow, as if the back-lights only are on.

Here's the log, probably only useful to apple developers. The sleep was initiated exactly at 2023-12-09 12:00:50.
At 12:00:55, is when my monitor starts a dim display again.

One more tidbit. Until today, when I updated to macOS Sonoma Version 14.1.2 (23B92).

Before today, If I initiated the sleep command, the monitor would not power down. But if the computer started sleep on its own, the monitor would power off and remain in a low power state with no light emitted. With the recent OS update, shown above, The monitor now leeks light wether I initiate sleep or the OS does it. :(

Hi there,

Just wondering if you ever figured out a solution to this issue? I've been having the exact same thing happen with my new Mac mini and Samsung monitor - needless to say I've tried everything and nothing helps.

It's driving me nuts :(

Same here. I have to turn my LG monitor off or else it flicks off and on all night.

I had the same issue and avoided it by using HDMI. Got an adapter with VM7100 chip inside to get HDMI 2.1.
Yeah I've just switched to HDMI and it seemingly has stopped the issue. Unbelievable that we would have to sacrifice the functionality of a USB-C capable monitor just to get the darn thing to sleep properly!

I had the same issue with my external monitors. I solved it by changing the setting under Battery -> Options -> Prevent automatic sleeping on power adaptor. It prevents the machine from waking, it is not sleeping, and thus not triggering the monitor to wake. I know that some might say this is not a solution as the machine is not sleeping, but for me I much prefer the monitors not coming on if an event trigger the machine to wake (with the option not turned on).

This is with an M3 MBP, Thunderbolt dock and dual Dell 32".
