To elaborate... I downloaded the modded INF, the new driver did install, but the screen resolution options remained the same. The max external resolution was still 1024x768. Additionally, the screen became very dark. After several heart attacks, I realized I could reset the color settings to default and screen was back to normal. But now I'm a little wary of downloading anything "modded".

All those do is tell the regular drivers that your GPU is included on the driver list. For whatever reason notebooks normally aren't.

That should fix it-since it hasn't, something weird is going on. I'd almost think a hardware issue, or Bootcamp issue.

I am having the same problem with a 17in MBP. I've tried everything in this thread as well as a couple other methods found elsewhere (disable monitor, restart, etc.) but to no avail. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

I have the exact same monitor as the OP. When I hooked i to my XP SP2 Dell Inspiron I had constant trouble with the resolution, and it would take forever for me to get it to native resolution. Even if I let the Dell sleep it would come back at a horrible resolution until I finally decided it was not worth the trouble and unplugged it.

Now that I have my Macbook, it is running flawlessly (so far) , however I am only running MacOS. I had intented on installing Windows as well though.

I think it is just an issue with Windows and this monitor. Of course, I dont know much

It seems to only be a problem with Vista and Boot Camp. If I had the previous version of Boot Camp, I'd try that to see if it was just the newest version or not.

I posted this question in another thread so Ill delete the other thread and ask it here.

I have a Samsung 19" 931B monitor (non widescreen). If I hook my Macbook Pro up to it (when I get it ;) ) will I have to constantly switch resolutions between 16x9 and 4x3 when connecting and unconnecting it from the Samsung Monitor?

im hoping with osx 10.5 with the built in nonbeta of bootcamp it will be fixed

I can't think it's a hardware issue, in that the screen runs perfectly on Mac OS X. It's probably the Bootcamp drivers.

That would depend on what display configurations you want to use. If you do dual-display (i.e., "extended desktop"), you should be able to plug it in and not have to change your laptop resolution. You can have your laptop at 1440x900 and your external monitor at, say, 1280x1024. But if you want display mirroring (i.e., the same thing on both displays), one or both of your monitors obviously won't be at native resolution.

Leopard Boot camp no better!

I have just purchased a new 15" 2.6 Gig MacBook Pro with Leopard, Boot camp and Vista Ultimate and I get the same restriction of 1024 * 768 on my Samsung 18" external monitor which should be 1280 * 1024 resolution. I have been using it fine for years on a 12" MacBook, beta Boot camp and XP pro. This is my work and I will have to continue to use my old machine until this is fixed! :-((

I have a 2.2 MBP with the same 19" WS Samsung monitor. I downloaded the aforementioned laptopvideo2go modded drivers (for gaming) and I am running XP, the monitor was set up without troubles both in OSX and in XP.

It could just be a Vista glitch.

this is a known problem that has been present since the SR MBP was released. I have not found a working fix for the issue, even with Bootcamp 2.0.

Sorry to bump a two-month-old thread, but I'm also having this problem (can only display a max of 1024x768 over DVI, no output with cloneview) with a HP l2335. The really weird thing is, I can output 1920x1200 perfectly fine over VGA!

Has ANYONE found a fix for this yet? I tried using a newer nvidia driver with a modified INF, but that didn't change anything (except for screwing up the softkeys for backlight and volume, requiring the bootcamp drivers to be re-installed, resetting the display driver in the process.)

Vista, 17" MBP.

It's a Vista problem!!!

Vista is known to NOT work / work improperly with standard outputs such as DVI, or VGA. Vista can't even connect to many VGA projectors that even Mac OS8 can connect to without drivers.

This thread should be in the Windows on a Mac section.

Close, but no cigar. I can select the correct resolution, but I just get a 'signal out of range' error on the display (no matter what resolution I select. Even 800x600 gives me an 'out of range' error!). This is the same no matter if I try clone view, dualview, or external monitor only.

check the refresh rate

idk..it works for my 24" monitor (LG L246WP) when nothing else worked

The refresh rate should always be 60hz (LCD displays don't actually have refresh rates at all).

yes it should be 60, but he might be getting out of range b\c the computer is telling the monitor to go higher

No I'm definitely using 60Hz (or at least, 60Hz is the refresh rate I selected).

Double-posting for new developments:
Fiddling in the 'Video and Televison' settings area of the Nvidia control panel, I tried using the various DVI output settings available there.
1080p: Squished image filling close to, but not exactly, entire height of the screen (as it should be, 1080 vs 1200), but only about half the width (display set to 1:1 pixel mapping)
1080i: Full screen output, but interlaced (it's 1080i, of course it'll be interlaced)
720p: Box in centre of screen (1:1 pixel mapping).

So, I can definitely output a signal in the correct range for the monitor to receive, and the monitor definitely functions under DVI input.

Also, for some reason, resolutions of 1600x1200 and below have suddenly begun to display correctly over DVI (set under the 'display' settings area)! 1920x1080 is horizontally squished, and 1920x1200 still gives an 'input signal out of range' error on the display.

Looking through the manual (specifically, page B-4), I noticed the following:

[...]
Factory Preset Display Modes
Horz Freq Vert Freq Pixel Clk
Preset Pixel Format (kHz) (Hz) (MHz)
20 1680 x 1050 65.29 60.00 146.250
21 1728 x 1080i 69.83 60.00 162.000
22 1920 x 518 33.75 60.00 74.250
23 1920 x 1080 67 .50 60.00 159.840
24 1920 x 1200 74.04 60.00 154.000
25 1920 x 1200 74.56 60.00 193.250

Display modes 19 and 25 are supported by the analog signal input only.

Unfortuately, I have no way to tell, but I strongly suspect that the MBP defaults to outputting 1920x1200 with too high a horizontal frequency and pixel clock. Unfortunately, there are no options for fine-tuning the output anywhere in the Nvidia control panel.
