Are there any downsides to NAS or AEBS with USB HDD using itunes/iphoto/VLC with the media on the HDD and stream over the wifi when your on the same network.

Am not bothered about outside remote access but just within network. Does it undo the snappyness of SDD if media not on there?

The only thing I learned from this thread is the importance of arithmetic.

128 - 18 = A whole lot of mamma jamma.

I don't know what's your intention but I used to have a 500GB laptop and somehow it never felt enough for me so that's why I was concern about a 128GB, and plus, this is no math class.

Yeah, I know you can keep some of the items on the internal, and some on the external, but as you say, that's very difficult to manage. itommyboy seemed to suggest that there was a way to automate this or 'sync' a selection. I'm not sure how to do that, so I'd like to hear about it.

Hi Zhenya. Looking back at my answer post to the op, I used sync in a spot I probably should not have, if at the very least to keep things simple. I should have said copy/store when referring to keeping some media locally. I was talking about him storing all on external and carrying some on his MBA, as well as syncing his ipod in the same breath.

That being said you can actually create a new library and sync to that as well, but as mentioned already for most it is found to be cumbersome and messy at best. However after playing around a bit and some time and practice, it does work. Also there is software out there that allows you to do just that clean and easy, but I shall not mention any names for such programs here. Seek and ye shall find. ;)

My intention is to strongly imply that one should do basic subtraction to determine whether the $1300+ investment you are making is adequate for your needs before hitting the panic button and investigating all sorts of complex alternate options that you don't need.

We sit through math class for over a decade so that we can answer these questions. Think of all the anxiety you could have eliminated from your life, wondering if your 18 GB music library was going to burst out of your 500 GB hard drive or your 128 GB Macbook Air.

I was considering other apps as well. There isn't just music in the laptop. I hope I don't meet anyone like you in the Apple Store if I have any further questions, such an ignorant.

*facepalm* Look, all everybody in this thread has been trying to do is be straight and level with you. That's all I'm trying to do, too. But it's frustrating to try to piece together your puzzle when you're withholding pieces.

WHAT apps are you considering? WHAT do you want to do with your computer? HOW big is your library?

Half the people in the Apple Store will probably just point you to the biggest drive - which you don't seem to need. But hey, as least you'll be satisfied.
