I own a MacBook pro9.2 A1278 mid 2012 which was manufactured the week starting June 17th 2014 in China, last time I was inside I took pic and looking one day for motherboard model #, I noticed the optical drive was manufactured in January 2014, I was curious so I looked up serial number to find build date Which is above
A mid 2012 indeed, gotcha. Cheers.

The two external USB ports are USB3. The USB2 shown in system report are internal, connecting the keyboard, bluetooth, IR receiver etc.

OP:

You have 2 USB3 ports on the side of the MacBook Pro.
Look at them.
There they are.

You will derive NO benefit from trying to add a USBc port to a 2012 Unibody MBP.
Impossible.

If you have USBc devices, use a USBc-to-USBa adapter, like this:
Cable Matters USB C to USB Adapter 6 Inches (USB to USB C Adapter, USB-C to USB 3.0 Adapter, USB C OTG) in Black

If the older drives you have are platter-based, there is NO benefit from USB3 vis-a-vis USBc. The drives themselves aren't fast enough to make a difference.

If you want more speed, get NEW USB3 SSDs.
Samsung t5 or t7 "shield" would be good choices.
