I scratched mine...and now it has a $14 screen protector laser cut for iPhone. These new screen protectors (Cellet among others) are levels of magnitude better than the old Palm ones. So the scratch story...didn't drop it, it was sitting on the coffee table, the coffee table that has a leg that is held on purely by the weight of the coffee table, the leg that has only accidently been kicked out one time in the last 8 years. Well it got kicked out and my MBP corner landed on the lower left 1/4 of the iPhone screen
. The gouge is about a quarter of an inch long, but barely and I mean barely visible with the screen on. With a screen protector, it's even less visible. So while you may treat your stuff with great care, you never know when a freak accident is going to happen. The Apple website has the same type of screen protector, 2/$14. I wish I'd have bought one sooner (duh). The phone will get bumped and dropped, it's a fact of life. Fortunately this phone is built pretty stout.
Oh, and even though it is optical quality glass...watch glass and glasses do scratch as well so....
