Years ago I used to read Games magazine. It had a section called Eyeball Benders--photos of common objects taken with uncommon perspectives, usually macro. The challenge was to identify what object each photo represented. Some were easy, some were harder. The best ones were photos where the published image was obscure but once you knew what it was it seemed obvious in retrospect.

Thought this might be a fun thing to do here. Doesn't require specific gear or exceptional skill (though both can make things more interesting).

Here are a few I shot today as examples (most are easy, though I have some more challenging ones up my sleeve). Again, the *ideal* example is something that is nearly impossible to reason out just looking at the image but becomes an "of course, it's so obvious" once you know the answer. Not saying that any of these meet that criterion.... All shot hand-held with a 105mm macro lens. The point wasn't perfect images, rather it was to provide examples for visual puzzles.

Post answers in this thread and/or your own eyeball benders :)

Garbage disposal, probably would have missed it had I not fixed one just days ago.

Nice. You nailed it :)

#7 is (strangely enough) straight out of the camera. Just pointed down and got this image. True for all of the above images--made some minor tweaks, but didn't intentionally alter the images in an effort to make things harder.

Will add hints to each image if people seem to be having trouble identifying the subject. Props to you though as I thought the garbage disposal was one of the harder images to identify.

#6 looks like a brown paper lunch bag... the little notch at the top, that is.

And #4 looks like the top (eraser) of a Ticonderoga branded pencil.

#1 Close. Actually a bathtub drain but you get credit.
#2 Yes. I hate doing dishes but this is a vital tool to getting them done.
#3 Close or maybe spot on. Toilet flush handle (which may be what you meant by bathroom flush handle.) In the US at least, toilet flush handles are always on the left as a holdover from the days when you had to pull a chain to flush a toilet.
#4 I may need to give a hint--I HATE having to take standardized tests...
#5 I may need to give a hint--related to image #3
#6 Probably the hardest of the bunch--a generic shopping add-on that makes things easier to carry but ends up being thrown away. Specialty shops have their own version but there are still plenty of these around. More compact versions are part of the stereotype for drunks walking around in public...
#7 Nailed by an earlier poster.

You win. It's actually a larger bag, but the notch is the same as on a lunch bag. Nice job!!

Still waiting for comments on image #5.

Is this a fun little game for everyone? Others want to post similar eyeball benders?

#5 - Paper towel roll.

Close, but no. Intimately related to image #3. 60% of Americans prefer an "over the top" orientation compared to this "from behind" orientation (based on something I read in a Bathroom Reader's book). I fall into the 60% though my wife doesn't.... Not enough to make me divorce her but it's annoying none-the-less.
