Has anybody seen Face ID work when opening apps that require authentication - eg a banking app.

Does it just open immediately when you launch it because obviously you’ll already be looking at the phone.

It's going to work the same way Touch ID works. You'll probably still see the interface for it briefly similarly to if you open your banking app with your finger resting on touch ID.

I’m surprised you’d even see the interface. If you’re already looking at the phone I’m surprised if it doesn’t just open instantly.

Yeah, this is my only hang up with Face ID. I use Touch ID with a password manager so plenty of apps and websites require unlocking throughout the day. So I’m going to wait to hear real life reports and probably try it in a store a couple of times before I’m sold.

Face ID is my number 1 reason for holding off on the X. I want to see how well this opens the iPhone, :apple:Pay and works in apps. Touch ID just works at any angle and without thought. Rumors were Apple was also wanting to include Touch ID (under screen) but it wasn't ready. Wonder if the next iPhone will have both?

There is a report on another thread that banking on this members account will not open with Face ID at the present time. It has to be updated and unknown how long that will take. Other banks may do the same and take a wait-and-see or update their site later. I too will wait until next year when things are more matured.

Don’t know why everyone and his dog is worried about the functionality of Face ID? Apple wouldn’t release something so essential for everyday usage if it wouldn’t work properly.

Not really, based on a stream of issues on beta software, even though that is for beta testing.

I’m not worried. I just wondered if anybody had seen it in action for apps. No harm in that is there!

I have no doubt that works properly. My concern is how it will work the way I use Touch ID. For example with the lying down on my desk, or while I’m driving. I use Siri to open apps frequently and need to unlock my phone first, If I have to put the screen in front of my face than it may not work for me.

Everything else has been complained, discussed and speculated about 30 separate times. So why stop there? There is always room for more.

My concern is not necessarily will it work properly as how does it work under real world conditions. For instance I'm sitting eating with right hand and iPhone is laying flat on table to my left. I use my left hand to unlock and use while still laying flat on table. How will this work without picking up??????

People always use this as an example of bad Apple design, but I think it's brilliant. If they had put it on the back where most people think it should be then most people would just leave it on the back and congrats Apple just designed a wired mouse. The thing charges fast and holds a charge for a long time. I really don't think its a big deal. I think the way the Apple Pen charges is way worse.

And on Face ID opening apps it will work the same way as Touch ID for along time. It's important that there be an interaction with face id especially at first so people can get used to it and understand when, how and why it's working. If it was all seamless and invisible people would find that troubling. I know I would.

I'm not that worried that it won't work - I'm more worried about all the new gestures it will take to replace the gestures that we are all experienced with and if you have an iPad - doing one thing on that device and totally different on new phone. Will my hands do the double press on button for face - id or will i sill be trying to press my finger. I'm sure I'll get it but it will take time.

If Apple does not like the idea of using fingerprint to help accessing various system apps, I doubt they will like the same idea when Face ID is available.

I don’t have a specific link, but there were hands on videos from after the keynote showing FaceID working with 1Password. I believe hey may have even showed it during the keynote too.

Calculator

Well, the guy asked why people are worried about Face ID so I’m giving him an answer. If Apple can screw up a calculator app I think people can legitimately be concerned about Face ID.

Not quite even close to being essential to everyday usage (of the device).

It’s a basic app. If they screw this up maybe they can’t handle something close to being essential. That is the cause for concern some people may have.

Yes, comparing a total replacement of the secure authentication of the device itself is the same as a calculator app...

Right, I’m going to build a house for you but I just demonstrated that I can’t hang a picture. See the cause for concern?

One person probably works on the calculator app and probably only when needed (literally the app had probably not even been touched by an Apple developer since it last got a “redesign” prior to the iOS 11 visual redesign.)

A whole team works on FaceID and is the cornerstone of the device security, that took many years to develope.

Not even remotely the same or comparable.
