Was this (video) a fair method to compare Face ID with Touch ID?

Your problem is solved by doing the following:

1)swipe up first
2)that's it

face ID flashes and opens your phone to the home screen

That’s exactly the step (swipe to unlock) that I want to avoid.

I want an option in the settings so I can simply:
1) pull the phone out of my pocket
2) instantly be at the home screen without having to swipe at all.

Face ID really shouldn’t be compared to Touch ID gen 1. Yes they are both gen 1 products but Touch ID gen 1 came out in 2013, 4 years earlier.

Touch ID gen 2 has still been out for a few years and is faster then Face ID.

I think Face ID works pretty great most of the time and it doesn’t bother me it’s a little slower but just becusse something is gen 1 doesn’t mean it should be compared to another gen 1 product.

It should be compared to the product it replaced, which is gen 2 Touch ID.

It compares closely to Touch ID gen 2 but just a little behind in some areas and ahead in some

I totally agree. But the main purpose I compared to Touch ID gen 1 was for iPhone 5s, SE and 6 user than upgraded or plan to upgrade to the X, so they can see how it compares to the their previous phone. Also, I only had access to the 5s. Would have loved to compared it to second gen, i just have the phone to do so.

How is resting a finger on the home button any faster than swiping a finger up from that same position? I find the swipe faster as on my 7 I have to rest it on the button a millisecond and it feels like longer than what it takes me to swipe up on my X. On both phones I’m looking at the screen right as I’m either swiping or resting my finger so there is zero time difference with FaceID as far as I can tell.

THIS RIGHT HERE

I don't get the issue with swiping up. I cannot comprehend it.

I don't really have a problem with the swipe up, but yeah - it's slower. My 7 Plus was unlocking as I pulled it out of my pocket, meaning it was already on the home screen by the time I actually looked at it. With the iPhone X, this simply isn't possible. I hope that helps.

Why is it an issue to simply have this option in the settings for those who want it?

It’s not like I’m asking for it to be forced on users and just because you don’t see a need for it yourself... doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be nice for others.

I agree with this right here even though I have zero issues with FaceID. Having options is always best.
