Well That sucks. Unfortunately I cannot stand the alternatives to the FB app. Tried to use "friendly" and I couldn't stand it.

I meant that if everyone just stopped using FB (which is obviously never going to happen), then they would be forced to listen to their users. The trouble is, FB's customers aren't their users.

The only problem with that is that you don't get push notifications.
There are certainly some trade-offs there. You can potentially install the Facebook app just for notifications and not actually open and use it and instead use the website.

After deleting the app and using the browser I decided that I'll take the battery drain over the inconvenience of not receiving notifications and not being able to quickly upload pictures.

Who needs 'em? Are they really worth the battery drain? Just check the site a few times a day.
That's where I am right now. I just check a few times/day and keep it moving. Using a bookmarklet from Safari works just fine for me. And, Safari NEVER has background usage!

Download Messenger. At least you'll get FB message push notifications and using the app won't battery drain your phone.

I've found a solution for that.
Your notifications go into an rss feed at facebook.
On the site go to https://www.facebook.com/notifications
There you have an RSS link, where you can put anywhere you feel.
I use the RSS feed and IFTTT to notify me using it app rather than facebooks. IFTTT battery usage is minimal compared to the facebook app.

That's pretty slick. Are there any apps that I can drop my FB rss link into and simulate push notifications? Currently, I have it set up with Feedly but there are not push notifications for that.

IFTTT notifies me, there are a few RSS readers with Notifications - certainly worth a search.

Just set up a recipe with IF. We'll see how it works!

**Edit**
This is actually pretty cool. I'm a gmail user but I use the iOS native mail app. Set up a recipe to mimic push gmail notifications and just got one. Don't know if I'll keep it but having it is pretty nifty.

If feed (paste fb rss url) then notification right? Not getting any FB notifications with that recipe. Craigslist and email work fine however

Oh and whilst we're at it, their failure to list what the updates contain and address is disgusting too. Facebook are just a shoddy company.

I actually started giving them a 1-star rating and my comments are basically along the line of "If you won't tell me what's been updated, I'm not telling you why I gave 1-star".

If they want to know why I gave them 1-star (and I'm not fooling myself into believing that), then they need to start sharing information as well. I realize it's not going to change anything. I realize it's petty. I realize I'm not helping the situation. And I don't really care because it DOES make me feel better.

Fb sadly doesn't care for app reviews. Unless it's a viral media complain, they won't address it and even then they'll act like getting caught with a hand in the cookie jar. The battery drain listening thing wasn't a bug, it was done on purpose, they've just now been called out on that ****.

Now they'll wait a bit for this to pass and they'll carry on. Media won't care because the next hyped thing they can write about is more clickbaity then months old news.

That's how companies get away with **** behavior nowadays. There's noone that have the power or will keeping them at check.

One reviewer puts something along the lines of 'Here is your fortnightly one star review...':D
