Im curious if anyone else has issues early in the morning still in bed trying to open your iPhone X? Mine works great everywhere else, but first thing in the morning I reach over to turn off my alarm on my phone and then surf a bit on my phone until I fully get up.

But I have had 0 success with face id in this position. Laying on my back in bed in the semi darkness face id fails every time. But if I wake up, stand up and do it; it works.

Curious if I am alone and maybe should just rescan my face?

That would tell me your face is different after sleeping all night. After getting up, gravity does it's thing and it recognizes you.

I had this problem this morning, turns out the phone was too close to my face. Maybe that?

My routine is exactly the same. I have to hold the phone out of front of me but it does unlock most of the time.

I've used in lying in bed on my side, with my arm under my face. I've used it under the covers, where part of my face is blocked. Granted, its only unlocked 90% like this, but yes it still unlocks.

Glad I'm not the only one having this annoyance. Definitely a situation in which TouchID is missed. I'm sure this will get better as FaceID improves.

Same here. Chocked it up to me still laying sideways and god knows what I look like in the morning. Trying to unlock the phone in portrait while I am laying landscape. Works fine after I realize this.

Happened to me today, i noticed its because my eyes were not completely open.

You have to have your eyes normally open and fully awake.

Works fine for me most of the time. Make sure you're not holding it too close to your face. And make sure to align the vertical axes of your face and the phone, just like you would when you're upright.

Same here. sideways, holding phone with my hand and trying and trying, fails everytime. maybe its because im not holding it correct or whatever, but thats the only time during the day that FaceID fails on me.

Haven't had a problem with laying on my back phone in front of me.

It doesn't work when I'm laying my head sideways on my pillow though.

If you are laying down on your side and holding the phone in portrait orientation (which is landscape according to gravity) then you can turn on orientation lock and FaceID will work.

Interesting that so many have the same issue. I guess tomorrow morning I will try some of the suggestions. I tried holding it further away, opening my eyes wide, etc. All with no luck.

So many? Where are the many I didn't have a problem unlocking it in bed so far, but maybe my cheeks are lighter and not pulled by gravity so strongly towards the pillow.

Nope not just you, but then again I wake up in the pitch dark and the light from the phone makes me squint. So it’s probably that
