I was wondering, after enabling FaceID with mask if you decide to turn it off and back to normal FaceID, do you have to rescan your face again or is the older version restored with the original scan?

Has anyone tested this.
set mine up when I updated yesterday BUT complete ‘fail’ whilst out this morning.

I don’t think it matters what type of mask you are wearing, it just sees your face partially obstructed.

Testing again this afternoon, it seems that you have to be very careful that your face is full square on to the phone Camera and it is held at eye level.
I wear varifocal glasses and the act of tilting my eyes to look through the lower section of lens was enough to prevent unlocking. If I was extremely careful I could get it to work but to the extent that for me it’s unusable so much so I will probably not use it and go back to “unlock with watch” and “pay with passcode “ when I’m wearing a mask.

Will it improve over time with Apple making improvements of the feature ?

Did you follow the process to “add glasses” in the Face ID settings after doing the initial setup?

I didn't bother switching it on - its pretty useless now that face masks are no longer compulsory so I no longer have any need for it. Nice feature, but way too late to be of any use for me.

I've upgraded to iOS 15.4. How do we enable the option for Face ID with a mask? I don't see it. I tried resetting Face ID and rescanning my face, but it still won't recognize me with a mask on.
You need an iPhone 12 or 13 series device to be able to use Face ID with a mask. If you have one of those the setup process should have run automatically after the update was installed.

Ah, that's my problem then. I've got an iPhone X.

Well, not a huge deal that I can't use this feature.

When i enabled FaceID with mask it told me to scan my face but not with a mask. Works fine though.

Reset face id and set up again
Scan with mask not asked for, just a rescan without glasses.
Seems to be working ‘better’, unlocking but still requires phone to be square on to face.
I’ll see how it goes before deciding if to go back to not using.

Face ID with mask analyzes area around your eyes, thus requiring a scan without glasses.

Mine works without any problem.

I personally noticed that after setting up FaceID with masks (and glasses) it works SO MUCH BETTER for me even when I’m not wearing a mask. I used to have extreme trouble unlocking my phone when lying in bed in the dark and now it just works. It’s wonderful!
