Its NOT a bloody Hackintosh, thats just the macbook hooked up to the the pc's display, the computer itself is built from the ground up for gaming purely to get the most bang for my buck instead of paying insane prices for medicore graphics hardware.
Its a lovely alternative, i have the laptop for all my work on the go, and the external display for when i need alittle more room, along with a really awsome piece of hardware at home for when i want to play games properly.
Done right this all costs as much as a high-end macbook pro on its own, which i find crazy to be honest.
hahahaha ok ok that picture isnt a hackintosh! i also have an external display for my laptop it is very worth it. however i think you will be better off installing osx on the PC so that its worth it more
Are you stuck on 10.5.2 though? It's the inability to update that worries me.
The reason I bought my MBP is that there's a good chance that I'll be moving out of the country in fall of 2009 and I want to bring a decent computer with me. If I DON'T move, though, I'm probably going to take a crack at a hackintosh...would you mind terribly giving me your specs? I'd be interested to see which setups work perfectly. I spec'd one out the other day for less than $1000:
Core 2 Quad 2.6ghz CPU
Some Intel mobo, I forget which (this is one of the pieces I do not thoroughly understand...I'm far from a tech geek, though I can hold my own)
4gb Crucial RAM
GeForce 9800GTX
1TB Seagate HD
Raidmax Smilodon Case
Plus whatever optical drive and soundcard (these seem to be pretty universal)
That's all VERY appealing if I know I can get it to work!
i am running 10.5.3, i dont really care much for updating the OS because i want to keep the stability of it.
i can give you my specs
Core 2 Duo E6400 (OC'd to stable 3ghz from 2.4ghz)
Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L is my motherboard, i only got that crappy one because of my budget, very good thought!
2gb of Geil RAM 800mhz
8500GT 512mb
500gb seagate HD
re-used case from my old PC (its getting stored away in the cupboard haha)
crappy optical drive from LG
i know, i know, my setup is pretty crap. its not that fast, its not that up-to-date, but i only had a $500 budget (that is australian dollars!!!) so think like $300US! this system is very stable though, it never crashes and runs perfect for me.
n.b. the most problems that you will have are with the GPU, its hard to find the right .kexts and/or software to install those .kexts if you dont know what you're doing (i didnt when i started). i had heeps of issues with resolution changes, if i changed it the whole screen would go blue forever... to solve it i had to remote into the machine, delete the GPU kext, repair permissions, restart the machine, then reinstall the kext. i seem to have fixed the problem now though, i can change resolutions easily!
