Considering you can get a complete Dell system with 19" LCD monitor for less than the cost of the Mini, it would be wise for Apple to try and hit a $299 price point with an :apple:TV sized Mini. Particularly one designed to work on a HDTV.

Well, I'm very glad I got mine! It's earned it's place as a fantastic second-room PC. I think it's a fantastic idea for a setup, though it does bother me that Apple doesn't want to include burners in the lower models, nor do they offer ANY option for graphic card upgrades.

I wanted slightly better specs, but I couldn't afford a Mac Pro, and hate the all-in-one-ness of the iMac. Yes, I'm in the group that thinks Apple needs a midrange tower option.

The Dell system w/Monitor for less than $599 will NOT have the specs or included software of the mini, I don't think. You would have a DL burner, likely. Always a trade-off. Plus, the Mini is marketed to those with monitors etc. already.

Also, to the poster who claims the move to C2D processors was a "quiet" update: what about how the Apple Web Store had a "New" icon plastered next to the mini in the first week after the upgrade? What about when they put out a press release announcing the upgrade? What about when major Mac publications reviewed the new machines?

As an outlet for surplus Macbook components, I tend to see the Mini staying in the line-up and just parasitically living off Macbook upgrades (e.g. new rumored graphics chips in the forthcoming Macbooks). But with Jobs, you never know!

I just bought a refurb mini.I hope they dont update just yet but i will be interested in an updated mini. Please save the mini!
