A Category All Its Own: Body Noises
it makes finding the quality apps harder to find.
it just takes up space in the itunes store. if you have a basket of good apples, then you start loading up with lots of bad apples, it's harder to find the good ones.
"Space" is essentially free. Unlike a brick and mortar store, that's not the problem. The problem is searchability and categorization.
The solution isn't that there should be less apps. Think of music in the iTunes store... there are a lot more songs than apps and yet there are ways to find what you want, like genres, soundtracks, artist, Genie, year, etc. The problem is that so many apps compete under "Entertainment". Heck, pretty much all of the music in iTunes is "Entertainment".
What the AppStore needs is more granular categories, and perhaps "Fart Noises" needs to be its own category (body noises?). It's hard to reconcile that a single-function fart app is in the same category as all other "entertainment" apps.
Now I must disclose that our app, 100sounds, does have a couple of gas noises, but that's just 1% of the 200 or so sounds included.
