I have tested this and amazingly enough, it actually does work! WinterBoard is a bit optimized by using WinterBoard settings, essentially, i am guessing, through "stripping down" some of WinterBoard's theming functions.

If you're like me and you only care about theming your SpringBoard and LockScreen, this is for you. It does not affect those (or widgets or HTML backgrounds). I believe if you theme apps and more specific system files then they might not work...however, you can always compensate by replacing those files individually manually through SCP...just make sure you back up everything you manually replace instead of using WinterBoard.

Using SBSettings + Winterboard + LockScreen Info + StatusNotifier as my only MobileSubstrate-based extensions, I was hovering around 36-38 MB free at all times; with WinterBoard Settings installed and the "SpringBoard Only" option checked, I get around 48-56 MB free now...an excellent gain of 12-18 MB of free memory, and all without breaking any of my WinterBoard themes I am currently using!

Highly recommended.

I added that to my sources and i dont see a winterboard in there. Only about 8 things in there and most are for wheater stuff. I have a 2G but that shouldnt make any difference n downloading the packages.

I couldn't add the named source to Cydia, but doing a search on my existing sources found Winterboard Settings. Installed and now testing results.

Update: Prior to installing Winterboard Settings and "removing icon" using that application, my maximum available memory after freeing memory via SBSettings was 161mb. It jumped up to 168mb after the change. Phone doesn't seem any snappier (it already was great), but the extra memory is a positive. Seems like a good install to make.

ok ,this is also on the modmyi source, which should be already on cydia.

theme settings (it think it is)

it seems to free a little bit of memory (like 9mb) on my iPhone (from 150 to 159mb)

works ok, I really like to have winterboard on "settings" ...

I would be greatful for some help here.

I've just had to restore my phone and after adding this source in cydia i can not find winterboard settings. I cant even find it in modmyi source. Searching doesnt even bring it up.

Does it still exist? If so, any ideas?:confused:

Thanks

I think it was removed. You can always theme your phone manually with via SSH or WinSCP/Cyberduck or something and it will not slow down your phone at ALL. Not one bit. Only drawbacks are it's more difficult to switch around themes and you can't change your springboard background.

Great!

I have thought about this. Tbh im not too fussed about chaning themes in the future as I love the theme i have so wouldnt change.

Its just getting the time as it will take ages.
I think i can do it from looking at the file system of the phone but is there a guide anywhere to refer in case i get a bit stuck?

Maybe... I tend to just google the names of images in the theme and see if someone posted a location somewhere :)

Everything in the same theme folder will probably go in the same place on the filesystem. ALWAYS remember to back up though. It's very key. I usually rename the original files to whatever.png.bak so that I can find them again later.

I'm going to try that once I get home, I had no problem on my 3G with WB Settings on 3.0.1, it freed up alot of memory for me

So I added the source. When I search for "winterboard" I do not see it. I see that it was removed, but posts afterwards saying it's working. Is this still unavailable or where can I find it? Thank you!

Here is the deb file winterboardsettings0.5.3.deb

Ssh file to phone under var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall. If you dont have subfolders then create them Reboot device then Respring and you will have WB in settings

ok, i took the file and placed it in var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall. for some reason its not showing up. any ideas? i tried just reinstalling winterboard itself but that didnt work. i also respring/reset the phone, but no joy. im running 3.0 on a 3g btw.

edit: Nevermind, its working now. i havent noticed a bump in my memory yet though

I grabbed this yesterday - just wanted to say thanks! I haven't had WBSettings installed since August, and I missed it! :)
