where hip is spoken
Insert: forum member’s latest iPad followed by previous iPad followed by previous model etc. ;)
So true.

My favorite iPad experience was the 1st gen 12.9 iPad Pro + Smart keyboard cover + Apple Pencil. Super thin, light, functional, and offered the potential of even more (that never really materialized).

If the latest iPad Pros offered the same experience, I'd have one today. Instead, I'm really enjoying my Mini 5 + Apple Pencil.

Despite the display backlight issues they’re known for, the second gen (2017) iPad Pro, the introduction to ProMotion was just amazing to experience for the first time.

The original was the best iPad experience ever though.

iPad mini 5th.

I've had and used quite a few iPad models (1st gen, 3rd gen "New iPad", 1st gen Air, Pro 9.7, Pro 10.5). I've had the mini 2 and loved it. Skipped the 3rd gen and 4rd gen mini for a lack of advantages. And my 2nd gen mini was still fast enough after two or three years. Sadly, it developed a sporadic issue with the touchscreen after I dropped it once. But I wasn't going to buy an "old" 4th gen mini to replace it.

After Apple seemed to have given up updating the mini line for two years in a row (2016 and '17), I turned back to bigger screens and bought a 9.7" Pro and then 10.5 Pro instead.

When the 5th gen mini was announced thoguh, I ordered one and sold my Pro. After receiving my new mini, holding it in my hands and carrying it around, it really made re-appreciate the (mini) form factor and its portability. Going back to the smaller screen and more portable device instantly felt "just right".

I've now ordered a new 4th gen Air, as I can really use the bigger screen school (books). But the mini 5 will still be my primary device - and is my preferred mobile internet device by far. If I had to choose the iPad and the iPhone, I'd give up my iPhone in a heartbeat.

Somewhere!
My iPad 7th Gen. Got a screaming deal on it and have been impressed with it since the day I bought it. I am also impressed with my wife's iPad Pro 12.9. Really sweet device to use.

iPad mini 2 - yeah the screen was a little muddy and dim but the form factor was awesome. I'm a large male and the mini fit in my jeans back pocket inside an Apple leather smart case. Carried that thing everywhere.

Currently - it's the iPad Air 3 with Apple Smart Keyboard. I know it's a parts-bin model but the screen is great, the performance is fantastic and combined with the thin keyboard case it is a very capable portable option.

My favorite iPad experience is with the iPad Air 3 with 2 pairs of air pods paired watching a downloaded movie with my dear wife, eating ice cream while lounging on the bed in our camper at the end of a long day canoeing on the local rivers.

Nice !

Mine is somewhat similar - watching football on youtubeTV with friends in a park while kicking back some beers after a long canoe paddling practice (6-man outrigger canoe paddling on open ocean here in Honolulu, HI not rivers).

iPad Air 3. I am still amazed I can copy hundreds of reference books and 1000ish journal papers into one single lightweight device. It is just like library on-the-go, I can search, read, quote etc in there. During pandemic, I also enjoyed clipping the news and highlighting important information using Apple pencil in Notability, and attended various webinars (without heating temp like in MacBook).

Only ever owned 1...
Bought the iPad Pro 9.7 when it came out, as I was looking for something I could edit photo's on to a reasonable standard, and thought the Pencil would be a great addition.
Still prefer to edit on the MBP, so just use the iPad as a browser these days, some coloring in Pigment, play a few games blah blah
Its fine for my needs :)
