...I have a 2012 Mac Pro with a Syba PEX40039 card...
I thought I’d check out other cards as today I fitted a new Crucial M500 drive , using the Black Magic Speed test I get about 269 write and 360 read, shouldn't it be faster than that? I am wondering if a newer Sata 3 card will enable better speed.
Your Syba card is only x1 PCIe 2.0 and uses the ASM1061 controller, and the performance is about right for this controller according to this link. If you want better performance, you have to pay more for a x2/x4 card with a much faster controller.

Thanks so much for the reply, that makes sense, ok I’ll have a look for a multiplier card any recommendations?

Grabbed a Syba PEX400058 on this thread's recommendations but cannot get my ssd to boot internally.

My system:

2008 Mac Pro 3,1
32 GB Ram
Apple HD5770
Boot Drive: Samsung 830 Pro

Strange thing is, I'm able to boot from my SSD when it's connected to eSata via an enclosure.

I thought that perhaps I ordered the wrong model, and was dealing with a Marvell 9235, but system report confirms otherwise (screenshot attached).

To other folks who succeeded in booting internally with the SYBA PEX40058: How did you power your SSD? I tried a variety of methods, including pulling power off of one of the 4 sata bays, as well as molex-> sata adapter from the optical bay.

When attempting to boot with the SSD connected to the PEX 40058 internally I get the ? folder symbol and nothing more.

Lastly, I looked at the SATA/SATA Express section of the System Report and see an entry for Marvell Virtuall, any idea what that is? Screenshot of that is attached as well.

Attempted SMC reset, as well as PRAM zap. Still can only boot via eSata + External Enclosure.

Any advice super appreciated; I can't believe what a speedy and informed community MR has, so thanks again in advance for any insight here.

Sampe problem with me

Mac pro 12 core 2012

SYBA SI-PEX40057

samsung 840 pro 512gb ssd can't see as internal device

please help

I've had a similar "?" show up on my Mac Pro 2008 with my SATA III PCIe card (can't remember the card model) when booting into my SSD. This only happened durring testing when I was swapping the SSD between one of the on-board SATA II ports and the SATA III card.

The trick was to hold the Option Key down at boot and choose my SSD. For some reason the Pro was confused. Similarly, I was also able to get it to boot by booting into another disk (a 10.10 install USB I made), then chose the SSD on the SATA III card as my boot drive in Startup Disk. Either way worked for me, but your card may only work one way or the other.

Had SD-PEX40054 in Mac Pro 2010, worked OOTB.

I used two internal and two external ports.
