My reservation is at Millenia... I don't plan to get there before 12PM though, hopefully the lines will be down some by then anyway. I mean how long could it take to knock out all the preorders? It's not like they have to go through an activation process like they did with the iphone. I went with the in store pickup option because I didn't want to commit to the ipad, I figure if I change my mind in the next few days, I can still back out without having to worry about a refund or shipping it back.

ahhh cheesecake factory... mmmm.... Those buffalo chicken and cheese stuffed appetizers are AMAZING! What did you get?

They will be offering activation/setup/configuration help though.

Baja Chicken Tacos and then brought home the Chocolate Mouse Cheesecake for breakfast! :D

My only complaint is that i swear the last time i had them they were grilled onions, and i don't think they used the avocado-sour cream sauce on them like they were supposed too. But still good - and will be lunch today too.

And ya, the set-up process is going to slow everyone down.

Sam, I'll be back at the store for an hour on friday night for the genius computer appt (i have 2 appts reserved for 40 minutes), i'll try to find out what their plans are and what they think on times for showing up for you.

I have to say the $19 DVI->Video cable i bought for the PICO projector is pretty cool. Keynote on the wall across the room and still readable!!! :D

Now to find out if the included adapter will work on the iPad with Keynote, or if i HAD to buy the VGA one from apple. I hope not...

Yeah, I'm hoping that most people enthusiastic enough to preorder an ipad can figure this out themselves. I'd guessing 90% of people preordering this thing already own an iphone/ipod touch so they already know how to use it.

Bag of goodies? I think you may be disappointed. Apple has never given out a bag of goodies during a prod. launch. A single item, yes, but nothing worthwhile in years. There have been rumors of a gift, but nothing confirmed. Apple has not gifted buyers of the past three iPhones though so outlook is cloudy.

There was indeed a "bag of goodies" with the first-gen (2G) and the 3G iPhones: we got a special glossy "gift" bag in which to carry our newly-purchased iPhone! The bags were nicer than the usual plastic Apple store bags and had photos of the iPhone on the outside. The first year the bag was black and the second year the bag was white. I don't know if a bag were given out with the 3GS or not, as I didn't get to the store as early as in previous years.

This is why I think I'll be able to walk in to a store on Saturday without a reservation, and buy an iPad. Though I may have to wait in line.

Yes, that survey does seem to reflect low overall enthusiasm -- until you pause to reflect upon what "9% of all consumers surveyed" actually means.

I mean, let's assume this is accurate. ONLY 9% of all American consumers is really a huge number. (And as the survey notes, the numbers were higher among the demographic groups actually most likely to buy a new Apple product.)

This is like the article by some Apple naysayer who was touting some poll showing that "only" 13% of current iPod owners are interested in buying an iPad. Or something like that. If you actually do the math

~1 gazillion X .13

that's a lot of iPads.

Yeah, I was there. I know about the "special" bag, but it had no "goodies." Mine went into the trash -- that's how exciting I thought it was. Now if Apple put a t-shirt & other kitsch inside then it would be a "bag of goodies." As it were it was just a "bag."

True. Statistics can be twisted to justify anything. Guess we'll just see on Saturday!

Did you really consider that bag to be a gift? A paper bag? Really? Wow, and I threw mine away, what was I thinking ;)

In the past though they've given away T-shirts, so a nice iPad t-shirt would be nice.

It was paper? Whenever I've heard about 'the bag' I assumed it was a nice logo tote or something.

It wasn't just a paper bag. It was a special paper bag.

In all seriousness, it would be pretty cool to get a t-shirt or something. A cloth bag would actually be useful (groceries, etc.)

Yes, it was paper, but it was a rich thick paper made from the finest Chinese recycled pulp known to man so far too many people had Applegasims over it. For more sane people, however, yes, it was just an ordinary paper bag with an Apple logo and pictures on it.

I reserved mine at Crabtree Valley Mall store in Raleigh, NC. I'd rather wait in line for maybe an hour than to have to wait around the house all day for the UPS guy. Without fail every time I order something from UPS it comes 20 minutes after I go out of the house, no matter when I leave  They also end up coming to my house late in the afternoon. Saturday delivery may be different, but I'd rather not take my chances.

I don't expect the line to last long since they will only have to swipe credit cards, no activation required.

You Sir, have earned my Bravest Shopper Award of the day!

Thanks, if I survive the experience on Saturday, I'll be sure to post it on my wall haha :)

I'm in San Francisco at the moment, I'd much rather buy it at the Apple Store here, but I guess that'll probably be one of the most crazy stores, that along with 5th Avenue!

Oh the excitment!

Oh you just made me hungry..... Salami & Swiss on Sourdough please! (Italian Dry Salami that i can't buy here in FL, and the Sourdough... well it sure ain't SF Sourdough that is for sure!)

I don't miss the west coast FOG though :D

(i'm a 3rd generation, Central Coast CA native - about 4 hours south of where you are now)

Well, the Florida Mall could seriously give it a run for the money!!! I'll be waiting for the report!

Well, I'm heading to bed, got the flight to Orlando tomorrow morning, get there late afternoon. I'll be sure to let you know how Florida Mall goes afterwards (assuming I survive), I'll probably be posting from my iPad haha :) (I hope)

And I don't think I've tried any of this SF Sourdough you speak of (tho I love Sourdough, we just don't get it in the UK), you'll have to let me know somewhere I can find it for next time I'm in the area heh :)

I found the store very civil this morning. I arrived at 7.30. There was already a long line for those without reservations but I was the 11th in the reservation line (I know this as they initially let 10 in the store at 9, I was the first asked to wait... All of about 5 secs haha) They didn't let those without reservations in. I bought my iPad and case and was out at 9:17. Not bad at all. Also got chatting to the others in line, good experience overall :) was expecting far worse!

Were you there island dog? Only just saw your post today!
